Question 87 Runner no start

Hi all, I am having a problem that after reading the posts on igniters does not answer my question about voltage from the igniter , i've tested the efi main relay, open circuit relay cold start injector, ting switch and so on.

I have nice spark at the plugs but nothing coming from the igniter plug with the three wires that feed the ECU, ie. the black and red, black and white and black and yellow.

I notice that there is no pulse at the injectors and from looking at the schematic on "All data" I see that the black and red seems to feed the injectors I may be wrong.

My question is should i get any voltage coming out of the igniter plug when the key is on and when the engine is cranking over? I am not clear on this one.

The cold start timing switch and injector check out fine and the engine starts just momentarily from the small amount coming from the cold start injector. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks TC.

I no longer have my 87, nor its Service Manual, so I can only make general suggestions:

1) check fuel pressure. This 'momentary running' in my experience has been due to low pressure more than anything else.

2) Check the vane air flow meter. Also be sure there are no leaks between the meter and your throttle body.

3) Do your 88 and 87 have the same engines? If so, then the supporting electronics are identical. You can test the 88 to see if voltage/pulses should be present.

4) Swap out the suspect 87 part with the known working 88 part.

I had a similar issue with the 3.0L in my '91. I had spark at the plugs, the starter turned fast, and the ECU was energizing the injectors. The problem was the ECU was not closing the grounds to the injectors. What it turned out to be was an engine ground on the passenger side rear of the motor had come loose. The ECU was thinking it was closing the grounds but since the lead was not connected to a real ground the circuit was not really completed. I tightened the ground and the truck has started perfectly since then. Btw, my tech told me that if I had spark at the plugs, then the ignitor was fine. So check you grounds.
