87 4runner 22re main bearing question
Just bough a new crankshaft with bearings to go in a 87 4runner with a 22re. The previous owner had starved it for oil so one connecting rod was trashed along with the old crankshaft.
After placing the new main bearings in the block and dropping the crankshaft in it seems as though the middle main bore is smaller than the other four. Is this common? I will call the dealer in the morning to ask them but if anyone knows about this it would be great to figure it out before the morning.
Thanks,
Duane

I know the third(middle)main bearing is th locaction of the thrust washers. This might have something to do with it. Also your sure the bearings are set firmly? Make sure you coat those new bearings with 'prelube' so you don't get a dry start. A recommendation on my rebulit 22R was to run SAE 30 for the first 500 miles then go to quality 20w50, these engines often dilute the oil with fuel even at 3000 mile intervals.
hope this helps

It turns out the middle main bore was warped which made it seem smaller than the others. The block is a the shop now and should be ready in a few hours.
Thanks for the reply,
