86 transmission wont shift all the time
I just bought a 86 4x4 pickup that has been converted to a 22r carb motor. It runs good but the transmission sometimes is hard to shift, especially 1st gear. The slave cylinder and master cylinder are new and the clutch works fine. Sometimes the thing shifts perfect and other times it dosent want to downshift, mostly 1st gear.(I replaced slave cylinder,it was leaking slightly). I bled system thourghly and need help!!!!!!!!!!!! If I come to a stop, sometimes I cant get it into any gear without force.

I'm assuming a manual tranny. At the base of the shift lever there is a bushing and a seal. They are factory only parts but less than $20 replacing both should help. You have to remove the shift lever. The bushing is on the end in the tranny and the seal sits on the lip of the lever hosuing, make sure not to knock any of the pieces of the seal into the tranny. Its an easy repair with only four bolts to remove. This repair had a noticible change for my '85 5-speed. If you have other questions let me know.
Good luck and happy wrenching,
