5VZFE Upgrade fuel injector review + results
I've been running a set of Flame Thrower's upgrade injectors in my 1991 4runner 3.0 for the last year and I gotta say I've been extremely happy. Much better power and a slight help in MPG's. I recently got a set of 5VZFE upgrade injectors for my 1998 4runner 3.4 since things went so well on the 1991.
After discussing the swap with Flame Thrower I found there is a lot of logic in eliminating the vacuum part of the stock injectors. My mechanic here said that stock 3.4 injector failure seems to be common due to the coils in them and so I didn't want to go with those. I found a couple other manufacturers that make upgraded ones but they all stuck with the vacuum assisted style.
I've put 2000 miles on these now and this truck has never run so smooth. Granted the old ones were used and these are new but the fact that I know I have injectors that were tested within 2% of each other that the smoothness could also be attributed to each cylinder getting an equal amount of fuel. Much faster response from the pedal smashing too! I might get an extra 1-2 MPG's out of these. I usually drive equal parts highway and stop and go. Most of the time I'm pedal full down or close to it and I still get 20 MPG's even with an automatic and 4x4 and slightly over sized tires. Given the price and support and performance I would definitely recommend these over returning to stock. It's just logic that newer technology that Toyota eventually went to in 2004 anyway (because even the factory realized this style was better) would out perform 16 year old technology.
I've made the recommendation to quite a few of my customers and several have purchased some for theirs and swear by them now. I've heard a lot of people talk skeptically about a swap from original, and I wasn't entirely sure either at the beginning. At this point I am very happy I went with these. I'll keep wheeling and update the results.
