5VZFE alternator disassembly?

just wondering if anyone has any details on a complete disassembly of the 5VZFE V6 alternator? i've got the diode pack off the rear but no luck getting the pulley off. looks like a huge nut (20mm+) and a smaller nut (10mm?) are holding it on; probably a special tool to do this but will wrenches accomplish this as well? i've soaked the nuts with PB Blaster for the last two days and they won't budge, clamped the pulley in a vise between planks of wood and tried to loosen the nuts and still nothing! any tips? also, once the pulley is off, should the housing just pop in two pieces?

thanks for the help.

You need an impact gun to remove the main nut holding the Pulley on the alternator

You could just do like I did and forget the stock alternator and get you a 150 amp GM CS-144 brand new for around $130.00. They are a bolt on conversion, just need a couple of washers to shim the alternator forward.

The nice thing about it is its putting out around 80-100 amps at idle compared to the stock denso has to be reved up to around 1800 rpms to give you the full 80 amps.

I hate to ask, but, absolutely bolt-on except the washers? No bracket/mounting modification besides that? Mine has been going out for the past two years! You'd have to modify the plug, too, yes?

i've got a spare alternator, i'm taking it apart so a friend of mine can powder coat it for me, then sending it to a shop to rebuild it with more juice

i'll get out the impact and see if it will budge. thanks.

No bracket modification is needed at all. Yes you do have to change out the plug but its nothing more than three wires and a new plug for autozone for 8 bucks. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showp...&postcount=171 And the plug http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/attac...1&d=1143558053
