4wd switch question
quick info bout my car..its a 96 5sp 4runner. i had the tranny replaced recently and the 4wd stopped working i tested every thing that i can. also download the fsm but it didnt help too much wid my problem. i can get it too manually work if i swap vacuums around with the solenoid. the blue plug isnt gettin any power when i switch too 4wd.
my question is when u switch the lever too 4h which switch on the transfer case sends the signal to activate the solenoid to 4wd and vise versa
ps i also searched too

I personally hate the 4wd system on these trucks.
You can test the VSV using the FSM.
However, even with a new VSV valve, I couldnt get it to blow the pressure off when manually trying to test it to compare.
I went the easy route after weeks of trying to get it to work like stock...
Bypassing the valve, and run constant vacuum to the blue stripped hose and capping off the pass. side at the actuator.
The front wheels are engaged, but the transfer case isnt supplying any power.

Permanently locking the ADD unit: There are 2 hoses connected to the ADD actuator. The vacuum line on the passenger side of the actuator puts shaft into the diff and the other side removes it. I removed the vacuum tank and vacuum switches. Then I connected a single vacuum line to the passenger side of the actuator to keep it locked. Then I and caped the driver side tube. This will prevent the ADD system from unlocking. The switches can be found behind the battery on the inside right fender, the vacuum tank is in front of the front right tire under the fender. Be sure to cap the vacuum feed from the engine to the switches or remove the "T" feeding it all together. I have found that the transfer case shifts much easer without the ADD system
