4runner won't start WTF!!!
Well it all started (not the 4runner oubviously) about two weeks ago. I went to the gas station and afteri filled up i turned the key and got nothing. i was lucky enough to get a jump and i went on my merry way. after this it was still no start. i had to park on hills and dump the clutch to get her going. i was tired of this so i went to checker to get my alternator tested. the guy said he could not get a good reading because it kept wanting to die out. he said it was most likely an electrical problem. well i have been really busy with school lately so i just parked it and borrowed my grandmas car to drive. i finally got some time the other day to hook the battery charger up to it to see if my battery was ok. after about an hour the green light came on indicating a charged battery. i disconnected the charger and stuck the key in, i was only reading about 4 volts and to no surprise it didn't start. then i hooked the batterycharger back up to it and i was reading about 11 volts. this was still not enough to get started but a lot closer. so now i figure i should just buy a new battery. well tonight i got home and stuck the key in just for fun. when i try to crank it over i read about 7 volts, but now there is is an awful noise coming from the passengers side. so i took the cover off of my computer and put my headf down there and sure enough, the clicking noise is coming from my computer.
WTF
oh yea it is a 95 3.0
and sorry about the long post but any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks, Steve

Sounds like you have a drain on the battery somewhere. I'd start with all the aftermarket items you have (radio first). Disconnect items (if realistic) to see iif the problem gets cured. When running, you should have 14+ volts or so at the battery.
That clicking is how the ECU deals with low voltage and trying to start and is normal if you don't have enough juice.

i'll check that stuff. do you think i should go gey my battery tested? i don't think it is more than 2 or 3 yeaqrs old. also, i know i heard the clicking the last time my battery was bad, i guess i just didn't pay attention and notice it was coming from the computer.

I just changed my battery because it was "wasted" (notice the quotes) and a month after doing this I seriously refuse to even consider that it is the battery once again. I simply think my stereo drains too much power when the car is off, but it's just getting annoying. What mods can be fixed to support a more power hungry 2nd gen?

shouldnt be drinign, do you have amps that constantly get power?
maybe wire in a switch to shut it off manually?
dual battery kit would be nice, but to be honest I dont think you should be having a draw, well you may have a draw on the system but if I were you would want to find the source rather than putting on a band aid...

A charged battery should be around 12.5 V or so (11 won't even get close to starting the truck). Take the battery out and put it on the charger and see if it will come up to a full charge. Then take it to a parts place and have it load tested. If it checks out fine then go and hook up the negative cable and take an amperage reading between the positive cable and the positive pole on the battery. That will tell you if it has a current draw with the truck off and how much. More than just a few milliamps and you could be draining the battery.
