4Runner V8 Deckplate mod

I did a search and found nothing specific to the V8 in the 4Runner so my questions are:

Can this be done? Has anyone done it? and how would you do it on this paticular truck if it is possible?

Thanks.

works just like any ol previous gen 4runner.

just look at your airbox and see where you want to drill a hole and measure how big you can make it. Then find out what size deckplate will fit accordingly.

Installation is all the same regardless of gen.

On the V8 Tundra's it did no real improvement, and just made the engine bay louder than normal. I may produce the same results on the 4Runner, just something to keep in mind.

Good times,

Thanks for the reply. That answers my question that it is somewhat of a universal mod using universal parts.

Mohamed,

Thanks for your input. If I was to do this mod and did not think it added much besides noise, would I be able to just simply close it and go back to essentially stock conditions and noise levels?

Now comes the really stupid question. What exactly is a deckplate and where do I get one? I picture it in my head as some type of sliding metal door to open and close over a whole. Even if I'm right in my thinking I still don't know where to get this part.

Thanks for the help.

deckplate mod uses marine equipement. I'm not sure exactly where to find it but I'm sure if you look at the write ups in the tech section of yotatech, you'll find where you need to go.

deckplate is like a pop off cap. remove cap to open hole to let more air in. close cap to restore back to stock conditions

pretty self explanatory for installation by reading others i believe

I know some may not feel any difference but to me free breathing = good = chance at a wee bit more oomph. lol Plus if it sounds good it must be good or as Billy Crystal used to say "To look good, is to feel good"

I have looked into it and there is not a flat surface anywhere on the V8 airbox big enough to take a readily available deckplate. And whats the point doing it if you have to use something tiny.

Gadget proved opening the entire thing up was best but until I find a removable and retrunable way of doing that, I am going to leave well alone.

BTW, mod showed measured improvements in certian model year V6 runners vs the K&N Filtercharger method.

Yeah, I went out at lunch and checked the airbox and couldn't find a suitable place to put the hole. The biggest area to do it on has a concave depression and the other surface is ribbed.

nrgetic99,

When you say open it all up do you mean a system like the k&n fipk? And what do you mean by "removable and retrunable"

Thanks

I think he's talking about something that will be easily reversed.
Once you cut into the airbox, there's no going back.

Is there at least an elbow type mod the 4th gens can do?
That would free up some restriction and be completely reversible.
