4Runner and Truck Taillights

I was parked next to a 93 or 94 Toy truck today and was looking at the taillights. They sure look alot like the 2nd Gen 4Runners. Has anyone ever checked to see if these are a bolt in? If they fit, it would be a nice clean way to get some extra reverse lighting. Anyone have a truck and a 4Runner of the 2nd Gen vintage that can check this?

I like the idea simply because, as soon as a friend here gets his new home built, we are fabbing a rear bumper w/ spare tire carrier for my 4Runner. I'll need the back ups!!!

Good idea...but won't the wiring harness have to be different to accomodate the 3 bulbs in the truck taillights, as opposed to the 2 bulbs in 4runner??

Yes CTB youre correct. I thoght it would be a pretty simple deal though to splice in wires and run over to the new tails. All you would need would be the plug in/base for the bulb.
Shouldnt be too hard. None of this anyway....

Ya that's kind of what I figured. However, I'm not too electrically inclined, so I wouldn't be the one to experiment with this mod! Good luck if you do.

I'll be the guinea pig..

I know my way around wiring, so I have no problem doing that part. My question is the physical taillight fit. Is it a perfect fit? I'll get a bulb holder and portion of harness from a salvage yard.

Cool Cebby. That would be neat if they fit. I would be interested in it if they did. Sorry I can't help with the wiring stuff - just not my forte. Anyway, keep us posted on what you figure out-

Cebby, if I dont get called into work in the morning, I'm going to run over to the Toy dealership here. They have a ton of trucks there. I'll bring my screw driver and see how close they are.

Awesome! This was on my list of things that I'd do when I "get around to it". Thank you.

Ohhh, Wait a minute...........You aren't offering to do this just to get me doing something else so you can beat me to the Aisin hub mod are you?

A little friendly competition perhaps...

*@#%!.......... He's on to me! No no Cebby. You ahhhh need to do this mod for safety. YEAH! Safety. Everyone everywhere (w/ a 2nd gen w/ crappy back-up lights) will talk about Cebby, and how he made the world a safer place.......

You're killin' me!`

Actually a mod of this type has been in the works for a while. I've been talking to Joey Myers and Kerrs in the UK about the Euro spec taillights for 2nd Gens. They also have integral reverse lights since the tailgate is different than our US spec models.

I appreciate your linguistic arm bending. I like the ring of "the Cebby Tallight mod"
