4runner stabilizer bar link broken?
All,
I changed oil yesterday and
I was told that left stabilizer bar bolt is broken on my 96 4runner. When I look at it I see that stabilizer bar links (6 inch vertical pieces) are disconnected from the stabilizer bar on both sides (left and right wheel). I didn't have a good look at it, but may be you can help ;-)
1. How soon should I fix it? I.e. is it a safety hazard?
Should I drive slower for now (corners?)?
2. What parts do I need - the link itself or some bolts that
attach it to the bar?
Leon

Is this the vetical bar (long screw) that goes from the sway bar to the a-arm? Does it have rubber washers on one end? Is it actually broken or just disconnected? If you or a previous owner have flexed the front hard they could be broken. The car will roll in corners pretty bad if it is the sway bar connectors. You just need to slow down in the corners untill its fixed. I imagine they aren't regular bolts on the 3rd gen. Mine looks like a tie rod on one end, with threads on the other.

It probably broken. I don't know what year you have, but I know that the 3rd gens will always rust at the top from moisture getting in the bushings and break. If one side is broken your sway bar is useless. I would get it fixed as quickly as possible. You should replace it yourself I know a few 4Runner owners that were charged an extreme price by the stealership to replace them and it only takes about 5-10 mins each.

thanks guys.
more details:
it's 96 runner
>Is this the vetical bar (long screw) that goes from the sway bar to the a-arm?
YES
>Does it have rubber washers on one end?
BOTTOM, top end is free now
>Is it actually broken or just disconnected?
DUNNO - can't see well enough
>If you or a previous owner have flexed the front hard they could be broken.
I DRIVE it for 3 years now and it was intact 3 month ago.
I don't do any extreme off roading, but it was hunting season
and I drove on some nusty trails. Assuming those things were
rusted they could have broken off then.
I have a friend who's used cars dealer - he ordered parts for me -
he's got 15% discount and don't pay taxes ;-)
