Angry 4Runner overheating

Gday, ive been having a few problems with my truck when travelling up hills or when it its under load. After a while under load it starts to overheat, if i ease off the temp falls back to normal. I have had my radiator overhauled and the water pump seems to be running fine. It is not using or losing any water externally and i am stuck for ideas to fix the problem. Can anyone help??????

Change your thermostat. If that doesn't do it then assume the water pump isn't ok. At this point though I'd recommend you have a mechanic pressure test the system - perhaps you have the beginnings of a head gasket failure?

I had the same problem on my 90' V6. I changed the Radiator and Thermostat and it went away. Good Luck!

Have you checked out the catalytic converter? A plugged up one will make the motor run hot under a load.

still overheating

Thankyou for all your suggestions so far but my overheating problem still exists.

My 4Runner is a 1987 LN61 model, with a 2.4 litre diesel and an after market turbo installed. So far i have replaced the thermostat, have to radiator overhauled, checked the water pump and had the cooling system pressure tested. None of these seem to be the problem, but the overheating up hills still continues.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Dez.

Does this turbo have an intercooler and where is it? Just wondering if you are getting excessive intake temps which are overheating your engine under sustained loads. I've heard of other turbo diesels doing this - my stock VW Jetta TDi is somewhat prone to this because of the very high boost pressures - most of the people experiencing this are doing it at high altitude under full throttle to near full throttle. Just a suggestion.
