4Runner that I'm checking out..

What do you guys think?

http://www.buysell.com/root/detail/B...41kms_4dr.aspx

(link to the ad)

1999 TOYOTA 4RUNNER SR5, 114641kms, 4dr, Automatic, 4x4, 3.4L, Cylinders 6, Gas, AM/FM Stereo, Air Conditioning, Alloy Wheels, Anti-Lock Brakes, CD Player, Cassette, Dual Air Bag, Intermittent Wipers, Power Brakes, Power Mirrors, Power Steering, Power Windows, Rear Defroster, Tilt Steering, Tinted Glass, Tow Package, Rear Sliding Window, Cruise Control, Power Locks, Split Folding Rear Seats, Local, bought and service at Valley Toyota by it's only owner. Give us a call today!! Clear out on now!!, Stock# 9592A, $15,980.00

I havent seen it in person yet, but it looks really clean and it has pretty low km's... (~71k miles) It doesnt really have everything I want (sunroof, roof-rack, keyless [I might get a remote-start/alarm system anyway], window visors, e-locker )... I never really liked the fender trim and I'm not 100% sold on owning an automatic vehicle. But its rare to find a clean 4Runner with low mileage at a decent price.

I've tossed the idea of each 4Runner edition around (LTD, SR5, Base) and the options I would like... I dont really want a Limited; mostly because I'm not a huge fan of the leather, and I dont like the flares and side moldings very much either. Although, I do like the shift-on-the-fly 4wd (or technically awd?), and the rest of the interior amenities. As for year, I like the stock height of a 1999, but I guess that could be changed relatively easy for the post-99 4Runners. What I would really like would be a Highlander (or Badlands Edition for us Canucks), but they're very rare and usually cost a good chunk more then normal 4Runners.

So I'm stuck here like this: , wondering what I should do.

Thanks for the offer, haha.. but I'm 100% sure I want a 3rd gen.

Am I being too nit-picky over the small stuff?

Price seems a bit on the high side for the trim.

$13,645 KBB Suggested Retail Value Assumes Excellent Condition...The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions.

"In recent years, however, the situation has changed enormously. Using an average of U.S. dollar exchange rates from January to June 2006, we have determined that the typical vehicle is $5,842 (17 percent) more expensive in Canada than in the United States."

http://www.canadiandriver.com/articl...fferential.htm

117% x $13,645 = $15,964.65 (pretty close to 15,980.00, eh? Haha)

If i were you i'd look for a badlands edition as they are wayyyy more common out there. I think the price is still a bit high, comparing to what i paid for my 99 Ltd 2yrs ago with 100k. And dont knock the comforts, i love my leather, so easy to clean, and the farts dont get hung up in the material! Also you may actually appreciate it in a more moist climate. The awd mode on the 99 ltds could also be a benefit to you in the rainy conditions. I know ill use it in the rain when I go that way come september.

Hrm.. i wouldnt pay that much for a 99'... it doesnt even have leather or any real options... DEF need the sunroof and the sport seats on the 99 4r's.. my limited has every option, high miles, but it was 9 grand... awesome truck...
http://www.trader.ca/Search/Details....ADS=6682126%7C $13,900 for a fully optioned limited (same as mine) elocker, sunroof, leather, everything...

here is one like the one you posted, for just over 9 grand, http://www.trader.ca/powerpage/detai...3&adid=6659662
that is a terrible deal. hell, come to ontario buy a truck and drive it home, you'll save 3-4 grand.
I'm checking autotrader.ca and fully optioned 4r's are around 12,000 with low mileage. (100-150k)

Can't you get 3rd Gen Diesels in Canada? If so, I'd go that route. Also, I thought SR5's had the hood scoop...?

Yea, I'd like to pay less, but I'm also a firm believer in "you get what you pay for".. I dont know, vehicles that are cheaper (money wise) seem cheaper (quality-wise) to me..

As for the sunroof; yea, my Civic has one.. I tend to crack it open every once in a while, its nice during the warmer parts of the year... It's something I don't use very often, but like to have. Same with the roof-rack, I'd probably only use that during the ski-season... I've never had a vehicle with window visors, but I always find myself wanting them (it gets really muggy during late-spring/summer showers).. Keyless isn't a huge deal, because I'd like to get an auto-start system anyway, but it would let me wait for a little while to install one.

I think I'd like the slim fender flares (and remove the running boards if I can find a set of Highlander front mudflaps), window visors, sunroof, roof-rack, and keyless.. I dont think I'll ever actually go out 4x4ing anymore, but the weather is the craps in the winter, and I'd like to have something capable.. So maybe an 01-02 SR5 would be the best option? They have the traction control and awd based 4wd.. and tend to have better options (minus the e-locker, which I probably wouldnt use much anyway).

If you are tall the sunroof will steal some headroom. Like SC I got a sunroof I barely have used.

Consider cars tend to be a good bit more in BC I don't thing that price is TOO ridiculous. Seems clean and for a toyota dealer I could see it going for that without much hassle. Comparing to the prices here in Ontario though I have to say it's a bit much. If your upto it It might be worth your while to source one down here and ship it to you or come and drive it back. BC is about 24hrs drive non-stop. So maybe 2 days with a stop to sleep and relax. You could make a weekend out of it. If that's not something you'd consider then atleast don't just settle for whatever. Keep looking and get exactly what you want you won't regret it. If you want the sunroof, smaller flares and roof rack try and find something with it. The sunroof and roof rack shouldn't be that hard to get. If you settle the little thing will bug you that you don't have them.

Dude definately get the sunroof, whenever the temp is above 20 deg c i just cruise with ALL the windows down (sides back and sunroof) and it's absolutely perfect.... love it... i'm 6'4" and i have enough room.
Oh and 99-02 limiteds have AWD, which is sweet when it's raining outside. AWD is crap in the snow tho, you have to throw it in 4wd.
i wouldnt pay that price for that 4runner, look for a limited fully loaded, they have everything you want... (except they have the big flares, but i like the big flares).
