4runner "grey wire mod"
ok so today i did the gray wire mod wich is a blue/red wire on 4runners. i did this to my 97 4runner limited. ive installed the ss 1.2 lift and some 33" mtz's on some fj80 rims. so after droppin so much cash on that i was lookin for a free mod. this was the ticket. i must say its awesome havin a locker on demand at anytime! frickin sweet. i would advise that there is 2 4wd control boxes inside the kick panel a green one and a black one. i grounded the blue/red wire coming from the green box first. that did nothing. its the blue/red wire from the BLACK BOX that you want to ground. after switching them around it was a piece of cake.dont know if anyone has had the same prob. but all the write ups i read were pretty vague or expired. lookin forward to doin some doughnuts in the snow! http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...ies/rockin.gif

Thanks. I tried doing this mod 6 months ago to my 97 limited. I grounded the blue-red from the green box and couldn't understand why it didn't work. Didn't know there were two boxes. Gonna go out and try again.

I know this thread is a little old now but Is this a constant locker or can you mount the ground to a switch to like turn it on or off. Lol sorry for the noob questions ive never done anything with axles and stuff like this. Only electronics lol.

the locker is already on a switch. the ground is to be able to turn the locker on in 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive hi. without it grounded the locker can only be enabled in 4 wheel drive lo

O. Ok I see. Well from what I have seen on my truck I dont have a diff lock switch. And I say this that there is a sensor for the security where its supposed to be. So does it engange when I move the diff shifter into 4lo?
So in return when I do this Mod the diff will lock in 4hi? also?
