4runner Full Length Roof Rack 3rd Gen

Im looking to buy a '96 4Runner, and i would like to get a roof rack. I have seen a couple that attach to the factory rack, but i would like to get one that covers the full length of the roof. Anyone know where i could find one?

many (like the Yakima and Proline) have extensions you can buy to make it extend the full length of the truck.

THe problem would be that the factory rack that it attaches too doesnt cover the entire roof, would that be an issue?

you're right - that would pose a problem. Time to use the "search" button up there ^ in the blue bar. This might get you started...

I searched and didnt find anything about supporting a longer rack. I think the only solution would be to install long rails. . .

I am actually looking to od the same thing to my 96 4runner. My approach: using my Yakima bar near the front and over the passenger door and the rails in the rear, I can lay a long rack over the full length. There are a million ways to attach it from there.

The only problem is that all the rails may not be exactly the same height from the roof. Its only a little bit off, so I am playing with spacers and whatnot.

Let me know if you have progress.

Heres a 3rd gen rack for sale. I bought a Load Warrior from the same seller last week.

JGM,

If you are looking for a stock long rail bar like you see on the current Nissan Xterra and the Pathfinder, Toyota does not make anything like that. However, you still can achieve the same thing using Thule equipment. I am going to assume you can do the same with Yak parts as well, but I am not sure because I only have Thule

This is what you have to do if you were to use a Thule rack system:

If you have the factory rails, you need to buy the feet pad. I believe they are called Tracker II. Of course, you would have to buy the load bars. Then you need to buy the 416 aero foot kit. You will only need one pair and an extra load bar. This will allow you to position a bar above the cabin area. This would then give you coverage for the entire length of the 4runner

Incidently, I just listed and selling my 416 Aero foot kit See the "for sale" section.

Thanks, Bob. I will tuck this away. I have the two yak bars on there now and they are solid as a rock, even after banging them into trees, etc, offroad. I mostly use them for carrying my kayak and other honey-do type stuff. I figured I like the look and functionality of a full-length. On eof those ideas (one of many) I keep playing with for my trucks.
