4Runner CV Shaft
So Toyota will be buying my Taco back in a couple of weeks due to the frame rust issue. I want to replace my Taco with a 96-02 4Runner. I have already been looking into lift kits for the 4Runners and was really liking the looks of the rigs with a 3 inch lift and 33" tires. After more searching I came across Downey's website which states that more than 2 inches of lift should not be done without a manual hub conversion do the the extreme cv shaft angles and the annoying buzz they make a highway speeds. Has anyone experienced this or is it just part of Downey's sale/marketing pitch to sell their product?
Here is the link to the page that states this information:
http://www.downeyoff-road.com/Suspen...s/1996-06.html
My next question is will I be able to put my aftermarket 15x8 wheels that I am going to take off of my Tacoma onto a 96-02 4Runner?

Most anything that Downey says about 3rd gen 4runners should be read like pouring gasoline on an open wound.
Read the lift faq very carefully at www.sonoransteel.com. It's not BS marketing....much of it was compiled here.
See www.toytec.com too.
285's with 2.5" suspension lift works and your CV angles will be fine. If you want more lift, I'd recommend adding a 1" body lift - MAX! See www.4crawler.com or www.wabfab.com for that.
15x8 aftermarket wheels wont clear/fit..but it really depends on what brand/model they are. Get 16x8's or use the the ones that come with.
Also do yourself a favor and find a '99+ you'll be happy you did. (more threads about that).
Sucks about your Taco.
Good luck.

Rocket - I am not sure what you meant by your first line of text...
As far as 99+ does that include 99 or not? Why are these years more desirable? I looked for reasons but could not find any.

I have seen the 1inch transfer case drops kits at multiple lift kit vendors. Would this be cheap insurance and protection for the CV shafts or is there some sort of drawback to using them?
