Need help w/ coils.

--I suppose my stock 2000 springs are shot if i can bottem them by just pushing on the bumper???

---Is is possible to maintain decent ride and be able to load 260+ pounds of extended tounge weight???

--Is OME the only brand out there???

--and is the lowest price for them about 160??

--How about adding air shocks???

--Which ome springs are heavy duty yet still ride nice?? i see a 906, 890,891,892

When i hookup my moto carrier, I don't notice any difference in the ride

Previously I ran the Gabriel AirRide shocks from Napa on the back and regularly used a MotoJackRack with a KLX650R (call it 400+ lbs all in). With 100psi in the damper-bags the truck rode quite well.

The absolute capacity of the AirRide shocks are 250psi, which I used when I carried an onboard compressor capable of it. Came in very handy when towing heavy loads like a rally-car and gear.

I've now got the stock springs, AirLift 1000 Airbags in those springs, and Bilstein HD's. I haven't hooked up the Moto carrier yet to see if it works as well.

I dont think they would be overkill, But they are probably going to ride realllllly stiff unless you have some weight back there..

They do say they give the same lift as the 891's..

I know someone else will chime in..

I'm currently running 890's however, I did try the LC coils. I didn't like the raked look when unloaded. But with a certain amount of weight they would be nice. I liked the ride of them and they towed awesome. If I was going for an exterior tire carrier and bigger rear bumper that would be my choice. The 890's are good as well, but I'm not carrying anything. I get a little drop in back when the boat is hooked up.

I have the medium duty rear coils. They work fine but do ride a bit rough. Keep in mind, the 4runner is a truck (body on frame). I also have the airbags from firestone which work ok.

If you want a softer ride, lower your tire pressure in the rear (at your own risk). I run about 26 PSI in the rear which works ok.


I towed a 2600lb trailer off the back of my Versahaul bike hauler. With the bags it works fine. However, if you slam on the brakes (and the trailer has none) you will push the front wheel off the ground. Pretty exciting.

if your front wheels come of the ground under hard braking you either have your trailer loaded wrong, or as in your case a wrong hitch setup towing a trailer of a bike carrier puts immense amounts of extra tong weight on your hitch, you can end up doing a lot of damage that way. both situations come down to having to much tongue weight.

Front wheel-singular. And yes, you are correct. I had a 2600 lb trailer sitting about 4 feet off the rear end with a TTR250 sitting on the extender. It was a lot of fun-quite the adventure.

Not sure about the damage part, it wasn't like I was hopping the front end ghetto style. Just enough for the ABS to kick in. The 4runner is pretty tough.

i would'nt be worried about the front end more the rear frame.....

also with how you describe that what do you think would happen if you were coming around a sharp corner and braked hard?

I've seen what trailers can do to frames and even ball mounts, ever seen a 2" solid ball mount twisted like a pretzel? I have...... I like to be prepared before i leave my driveway. A proper trailer setup can save lives.
