4Runner 97 rear sag (question from Chile!!)

Hi, I am from Chile (South America) and a have a question for you guys!

I have a 1997 4Runner with "normal" rear springs (the originals with 100.000 miles) and RS9000 rear springs shocks.

My problem is that I have a rear sag problem (even when I drive only with 5 passengers without luggage!!)

I can’t buy a new set of OEM stiffer springs from USA (money problem ), but I can get a set from 1999-2003 4runner 3rd gen here.

My question is…. those ’99-2003 springs are stiffer than mine (‘97)?

Thanks!

If you are going to swap you have a couple choices.
OME
LC FJ-80 front coils mounted in the rear
Downey springs
Cornfed spacer on top of OEM spring

From what I've read here (and I'm no expert), the '99 and '00 springs are one coil taller than the '96-'98 models. I believe in '01 that the springs are the same height as the '96-'98 models. The one coil should make the sag look less noticable or may even correct it.

I got a brand new set of stock springs from a 99-03 model installed on mine before I did my OME setup and I barely saw a difference at all. As far as I am concerned, they did nothing to solve the sag problem. If you can afford it at all I would go with the OME setup (you should be able to buy direct from Australia where that stuff is made). The other option would be to get some airbags to go inside the springs (I almost went this route) but the ride will be quite a bit stiffer in the rear when the vehicle is levelled out. They were also tough to find.....they seemed to have disappeared when I tried to buy them. In the end, I am glad I went the OME route.

....there are also the PP springs but I doubt they are available down there and they'd be a small fortune to ship.

they might be stiffer, but might not be

I bet if you can get some lower mileage ones you will be in good shape

so maybe find some lower mileage ones also wonder if some spring spacers can help you lift up the rear a little

Thanks guys! for all your answers.

I found in a junkyard a set of Toyota Prado rear springs. (Land Cruiser 90 series).
I know that this model is not available in USA… but, Does anybody knows something about the length or stiffness of those springs?

The top and bottom ends are identical.

Thanks again.

Good Choice! We have 2500 miles of good waves, good beaches, good weather and NO dangerous animals or insects (no sharks, spiders or snakes). Also, we have a lot of Toyota 4x4... pickups and Land Cruiser and many 4x4 routes.
