4Runner 4wd system help (3rd gen)

I tried searching and didn't find what i needed and I need an answer asap. i have an 02 4runner sr5 4wd. The little light up diagram of the 4wd drive system is blinking, this hasnt happened to me before. i was just starting to take apart the center to install a new cd plater. the first direction on the tech write-up is to remove the 4wd shift knob, i just jiggled it a tiny bit and it make a wierd little noise and the lights started flashing (four green wheel lights and the orange cent. lock light), i tried engaging and unengaging the 4wd and the dif lock button but nothing... im not sure whats to do, im sure someone on here knows what I can do, i really need to figure this out asap like tonight so ANY suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!

thank you

Much better title

Also, since you said you were pulling the dash, did you check the connections at your 4wd control box to see if you inadvertently pulled a wire out? Make sure the truck is off if you have to put one back in.

Ya...you don't want to be in a spot where you really need 4wd and have that wire come loose on you...

Might have accidently pushed in the button on the side of the shifter to engage it. When this happens, the lights will be blinking, but you're still in 2wd. They will continue to blink until the 4wd locks in. Once locked in, the lights will be solid. They will go back to blinking when you disconnect the 4wd, and once everything is unlocked, they will go off.

And if you accidently push that button and the lights start flashing, turning the ignintion off and restarting a minute later will keep the lights off.

At least this has been my experience with it.

You need to be moving for the 4wd to engage. If you just press the button, the light will keep blinking until it engages... Just a FYI, you can engage and turn off the 4WD as long as you are going less than 60 mph.

I was having problems with my 02. I would press the button while driving at high speeds and decelerate/accelerate and the lights would keep blinking. I would even tap on the brakes and nothing. Does anyone with an 02 have this problem?
