4Hi and 4Lo problems

So I am showing my friend my truck because he hasnt seen it yet, and the truck stalls on me.... so, i start it up again and try to continue my upward climb, but the front wheels wont budge.... so neutral, 4lo, and then the wheels go for a second and then BAM! they stop again. As I get out, I see there is diff fluid coming out of the front in the coupling of the CV joint to the differential... being a novice in mechanics and not even a real beginner in the true sense of "off-roading", I was wondering if you, fellow YotaTechers, could help me diagnose the problem.

Below, I have linked some pictures of it. I only hope that it is just the CV joint or coupling or whatever and not the whole differential. I am sorry for the poor picture quality.

..................Also, there seems to be brake fluid leaving from somewhere, and iits not the brake lines (the tire guy at sears checked it out). Do you know where this might all be coming from? I have pictures linked of this as well.

Again, I am sorry for the poor picture quality.

Thank you YotaTechers!

Sorry dude, but it looks like your differential is shot (could be alot of things, but it isn't your CV, that much is certain.) Might be your spider gears, might be a cooked ring gear. I know that when I broke my ring gear, the car would move forward and then the front would make a horrible clank bang noise and lurch...

If you get it quoted by a mechanic, just remember that you can buy a used differential in good condition for about $300... so don't authorize anything over $400 of work

Just so you know, I have a 4.56 ratio IFS diff I would be willing to sell (no leaks, good gears) for about $200 if you're interested. BUT, check your gear ratio befor you think about this because it must be the same as what you have now.

maybe, but would a broken seal cause the loss of enough oil fast enough to make the differential go out like that? It hasnt leaked until i was climbing that hill.

Differential Fried

So my differnetial is fried according to my mechanic, and evidently so because of the metal chunks in the bottom of the drip pan he used to drain it.... so, I have to get ANOTHER differential (i replaced the rear a few months ago). Somehow the passenger a-arm or whatever it is (where it is leaking oil) for all f'd up and is actually rubbing the housing, torquing the diff in the wrong direction and making me a) pull to the left because more power is going to my side AND b) wrenching my differential... aaagh!!

So, anyone know some good parts dealers that have a 1989-1995 differential geared in 4.88?
