I just had to get a bluebook value on my runner for Mexican Insurance and it's worth 1/2 of what I paid for it a few years ago.
I plugged my buddy's 2001 MINT, Museum Quality, Excellent condition, 60,000
mile limited with leather/moonroof and all the gagdets and came up with
13,800 !!!!!!!!
I almost fell over and I know he's beside himself.
Even the great Toyota has been hit hard by the recent gas woes.

That's wierd. The retail on my 96 Tacoma and 04 Corrola have went UP this year. Of course I can see it on the car, though.

i don't concern myself with blue book value on my 4runner, i mean, it's not like i'm EVER going to sell it so i don't need to remind myself of how much it's worth. in my heart, i know how much it's worth.

Too bad for many like me though...............your house is worth 25% less from 2 yrs ago and your equity tanks and now your vehicle value is for sheet.
I'm serious......my buds 2001 runner is a museum piece that he never drives and even bought another old runner as to not pack on miles to the 01'.
Crazy I know..... but normal for him.
That truck's resale is only 13,800.........freaking crazy!!!!

More bad news. KBB, NADA don't account for the HUGE inventory of SUV's out there. Which means, you won't even get the KBB/NADA values. Definitely sucks for those wanting to sell, but I don't see why they'd be surprised or baffled. Gas is high, so naturally the demand for larger SUV's are going to fall.

Tacoma's have not taken as much of a hit, because there is still demand for trucks that get good MPG.

on a note of MPG, the 4.0 gets so much better mileage than the 3.4. My dad's '06 4.0 gets abt 25 mpg on the hwy. I get 17-18

Consider that when people really do need trucks, they still need to buy a truck, even if they buy a smaller one. With people downsizing and trying to maximize fuel economy, it makes sense that a lot of people would be going from full size trucks to something smaller, like a Tacoma. Tacomas are in demand, and the price reflects that.

It will pay off in the future to keep your Runenr nice if you ever did want to sell it since they'll always be worth more than the same year Jeep Cherokee.

I figure most of the 3rd gens will be bottoming out at around $5k no matter how old they get for examples that are well kept and have reasonable mileage.

My 2001 SR5 is worth 13,200 but I will NEVER sell it I have too much to do to it...I am taking donations for the "mods"
I paid 29,500 for it so it's a hit but they cannot give suv's and trucks away now hell they are giving away free cars now when you purchase a truck...it's only money I cannot see myself trying to drive around in 138.9 inches of snow in a "economical" car like say a Chevy Aveo...uhm no !

Well personally I was shocked to see how some of these trucks were holding value. Maybe I was just comparing to how they hold it compared to lesser trucks like the cherokee. Every 3rd gen 4runner I found regardless of being an sr5 or limited, 4wd or not, they all had over 140k and people were asking between upper 5k's and 12k, which shocked me for such a high mileage vehicle. But finally I found a 98 with 100k and I only paid $4500, and I felt I got a great deal on it.

Maybe your bud overpaid. What was KBB wholesale when he bought? Still, all SUV's and trucks have taken a hit. It's actually a great time to buy if you can feed one.

About real estate, it's local. My house went up 6% last year and another 3% YTD. Admittedly, my county is one of the best in the US for real estate values.

Maybe a 4 cylinder Tacoma, but not the V6. I avg. about the same as a 4Runner with my 5vz.

I had to do a double take today, I'm at half a tank (according to the gas needle), but my trip computer shows a measly 98 miles. That HAS to be wrong.

Compare the 3.4L V6 to a full-size pick up V8. They are at 12/16MPG, if that. My 3.4L gets 17/21. There are ALWAYS people in need of trucks, such as small business owners, so the demand for the Tacoma's will always be there. I'd even rate the V6 higher than the I4 due to the better towing and hauling capacity.

Also, never trust the gas gauge. They're known to be faulty.

I'm still looking for a nice specimen for myself and have been running into the same problem regarding the high used prices with the high mileage. I'd expect lower prices with high mileage.

The trim and features really change the value. I put in a 4WD, auto, 3.4, etc (limited acc.) and it bumped the price to 12k.
