Hello all,
I am from Guyana, South America, and my truck is a 99 Toyota Hilux with the 3rz engine. My ONLY problem with this truck is that is get me about 13mpg
I have checked all the electronics, valve clearances, air filter replaced, fuel filter replaced, o2 sensor changed, and the list goes on. Everything is OK.
The base timing is at 5 degrees and at idle is between 7-13 degrees.
I'm here because I am absolutely clueless as to where to look now. I have exhausted all possible avenues that I could come up with.
If you guys have any ideas I would greatly appreciate it.
The only idea I have left involves some gasoline and a match.

what about the quality of gas? i know over here (US) gasoline brands make a difference. the amount of ethanol is a big factor in mileage,the more ethanol the worst mileage.

I use Shell 95 octane always. I'm really not sure about the ethanol content though

i get the best mileage with shell also.
one other thing that could affect mileage and performance is the catalytic converter clogged up.
how many miles on your truck?

the exhaust has been redone, new converter, sensor, muffler, pipe. The odometer says 85k, but I want to think for its age its actually 185k and someone turned the clock back. It is in mint condition though I must say.
