Post 3rd gen Yakima Q-Tower Users... How's the door jam wear / wind leaks???

I'm asking because using the Y-Clips on my old SST towers on my '91 SR5 caused paint wear on the door where it rubbed the clips, and also at highway speeds you could definitely hear some wind noise where the clips pushed down the factory weather stipping.

I want to co Q-Towers over Control towers because of looks and weight bearing issues, but I don't want to scrape up my new baby.

Are these issues resolved with the new Q Clips?????

Thanks!

I stuck with control towers becuase anywhere you have something hooked to the body, you're going to get some wear/discoloration/scratches and I wanted to keep it limited to the factory roof rack. I think it has a rating of well over 100lbs. I'll say this, when my brother rolled his 95, the yakima bars were still holding strong, attached to the factory roof rack. The bars were bent a little bit, but I was surprised they held up as good as they did.

Thanks for the input, I just can't decide if I like how it looks with the fairing halfway back accross the roof.

Look at mine. I think it looks great. I used the railriders that go in the tracks of the factory rack. They are easy to install and look great IMO.

Here's mine. I definitely wish the rack went further toward the front, guess we all have to suffer for the nancies who want sunroofs.
Here's what mine looks like...

kyle your 4runner looks fine with those towers there. for mine, well there will be no noise as long as you dont rip them off by running into the top of the garage..mine were quiet as could be until that. oh yea, and in heavy down poors i have a few drips because i tore the cushioning stuff away.

Looks JUST like mine. Thanks for the pic, gives me a little better idea how it would look on mine. I think that I will just get the towers for the rack and see if I like them. I'm sure if I don't, someone around here would be kind enough to take them off my hands.

Jonathan: Sweet ride, you helped inspire me to give it a try. The side and back shots gave me a good idea of what they look like.

I love mine:

Dont get the rain gutter type mounts... Get the ones that snap in the the factory rack, if you can - then when you're not using it, takes about 1 min to take off, and you save 1 or 2 mpg in gas...

i have used both SST and q-towers on 4runners and tacoma. i prefer the q-towers, they fit alot better than the SST. and i never had a problem with the q-towers leaking or paint chips on my 99 taco or 96 4runner.

Where the Stock Racks can support up to 100 lbs..... It is the lift created from the shape of the load that you need to be concerened with. I prefer Q Towers for my Kayaks because the lift can rip the stock rack off the roof.

I don't know if you have a sunroof, but it keeps the wind noise back if you mount it on the factory rails. Thats why I keep mine back there. I like my sunroof tooooo much.
