3rd Gen transfer actuator - DON'T DO THIS...

If like me you are having trouble with your 4wd multimode system, there is a great thread by SC994Runner.

But, if you suspect the transfer case actuator assembly, BE CAREFUL when opening the actuator itself. There is a gear inside that is driven by an electric motor. (motor sits on top in a black plastic cover)

If you pull the actuator (gear) cover off to check the terminals and accidentally, the gear comes out as well, you will need to clear your calender 'cause its a b@stard to get back in, and to get it back in at the correct rotational angle.

I have this problem,

UNLESS anyone can shed some light after being in the same boat.....

Ash.

Hi, I believe the actuator on my 1996 Tacoma 4X4 Automatic is sticking....... do you have any idea on how to gain access to the inside of the actuator to lube it up without having to remove the actuator from the truck all together?
