This is all about IFS. 35's and the fact that minor lift and a little triming will clear them.

Glad to finally see pics of the tire carrier, I was really interested to see how that ended up.

This pushes the axle swap back another year or so???

Probably. I still want to go run Claw Hammer and see if anything breaks. Lower Terminator is on the list now as well.

Now that I'm lifted somewhat, I might be able to hang w/ ya on some of the trails. I'd love to go out to your place and visit ya soon! How about we try to push for something like in the spring time? I'm sure I can find a free weekend to plan a 5 hr drive out to visit ya

Looks like some of the guys here in socal want their own Yotatech Jamboree so who knows... Maybe we can have it in AZ? I"m definitely up for some fun though Gotta test out my 4runner!

Well, my position is to "fix" what does not work. I needed the 1" body lift to give the repositioned rear transfercase a bit more room and to slightly reposition the rear case lever so it stoped cutting shift base boots.

It was clear from Chinamans and other trails in Arizona that another inch under the axle would be ideal as well. Finally the 5.29 gears and the 285's were a bit too low. They are right on the money with the 34.5" 315/75/16 tires. I now have the exact same RPM's as stock.

I also wanted to see if I could do it.

Is anybody else running a steering rack cooler. I noticed that guy is, I cant remember it being mentioned before as a recommended mod for larger tires?

Looks great Steve - nice job indeed. You're always trying new things and pushing your IFS... the masses benefit from your "experiments", and we thank you for it.

You mentioned on your website that the ATS arms are necessary for the 12.5" wide tires to clear. Are those arms "narrower" than the factory arms?

The reason I ask is I'm going to need new tires in the spring, and I'm considering going with a 33/12.5-15, but I know they will rub on the factory a-arms (my current 32/11.5-15s just barely clear). I know I can get new wheels to push the tires away from the a-arms, but that causes other rubbing problems.

Yes, the ATS/Inland Trucks arms use a sleeve that is alot smaller than the stock arm.

Take a look:

I would swap the arms before ditching the rims.

It wasn't. WATRD had one as well for his 35's. Because of this I tested the rack temperature and sure enough it got real hot. The Master Toyota Mechanic said the rack is strong enough for the 315's the only issue is the heat, if the fluid boils it will blow the seals and the rack is shot.

I was looking at your site, and I saw these pics:

From these pics, it does not appear that I would gain much room to clear the 33s by simply going with the ATS arms. I read through your writeup on the ATS arms, and some of it was over my head, mechanically, so maybe I'm just missing something.

I'm glad someone else did this first I was getting ready to put some 35's on my 4runner but I wasn't sure they would fit. I hope 4:88's are enough.

The arms in those pictures are the original ones that were for the Tacoma and were 3/16 over stock. The production arms were only 1/16 over stock. So you can not really use those photos for this comparison.

What you need to look at is the distance from the center of the ball joint bolt hole to the ouside of the arm that would come in contact with the tire.

Ah, ok... now it's making sense. Thanks man... the help is much appreciated. Seems like this is definitely a better option for me to clear the 33s (rather than the wheels with 3.75 backspacing). I'll also add a 1" BL to help with the rubbing in the back. May have to do some trimming, but I'm not worried about that - the a-arms were my concern.
