3rd Gen Possible Ram Air?
GF owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue, I was looking around in the engine bay and saw it had a ram air looking type intake ( its on the right as you can see )
Now I'm wondering if we could fab some kind of similar type scoop/intake the way the Rogue has? Any ideas? A slim but wide opening like the rogue's should show performance improvements as it will definitely not be sucking in hot air as the deckplate and elbow remove mods do. * i currently have the intake silencers removed and the elbow removed *
I'm thinking if we could maybe attach the ram air type piece in front of our airbox? cutting a wide rectangular type hole in the air box and attaching it to that? could melt the plastic with a heat gun to seal the connection. These are just ideas I'm throwing out here.

can you get pics of it or anything I can try to work with. theres so many ppl out there that have great mods but don't know or forget to share them! this could be huge.

That looks more like it gets fresh air rather than ram air, with the hood closed I would imagine it gets the air channeled through the grill. Ram air does help of course being it is fresh air but unless it's a true ram air hood/scoop I would think that pic does about the same as getting it from the fender. Seems like a lot for minimal gains that I don't think I would notice. Now on a fast car with a functional hood scoop made for ram air I have heard at high speeds it helps but I don't think it would make much of a difference in our trucks,
But hey that's just my opinion Any ram air hood I have seen is direct over the intake like old school firebirds and what not. It would almost be the same as a snorkel, just not as high. I like the idea though a true ram air system would be cool.

The bikes with the best ram-air designs showed around 28mb of airbox pressure over ambient. Sea Level atmospheric pressure is 1013mb, so 28 ÷ 1013 = 2.76%. That's a 2.76% power gain at 180mph, not including the power lost due to drag from the ram-air itself.

well maybe im just wanting colder air and not ram air? man what's wrong with that... everyone is getting a bit uptight with just the idea.. lol. a colder, direct setup couldn't hurt? stock air box with elbow removal isnt better than that rogues setup.

Not going to sugar coat it...it's kind of a dumb idea. Member TexasAce found the ideal intake setup was with the stock airbox (cold air) with the elbow removed. Verified by dyno.

URD makes what they call a "true cold air intake" for the 05+ tacomas. it puts the air filter behind the grill. looks way better then any other fake cold air intake

Wasn't TexasAce's experiment on a supercharged 4runner?? So I'm supposed to compare my 4runner to another guy's 4runner that is supercharged... I think his experiment results are more important to SC'd 4runners. I'm no scientist but using a method on 2 subjects that are not identical only proves that the experiment works on subject A and not necessarily Subject B.....so why should I or anyone care about an experiment that worked on a car that is not identical to mine and in fact has been modified (SC'd)? I'm not saying Texas Ace is wrong, his 4runner mods just don't apply to my 4runner.
Oh ya, his stock air box and dyno numbers is not the end all of the discussion on stock vs modified air box/intake, if you read below you will see that these guys did a slightly modified deckplate mod and produced 8hp 8tq on their 4runner and dyno paper to prove it. Just saying.

explain to me how is it a dumb idea to try to get the intake to truly face the front and suck in fresh/colder air.

last post was to show Texas ace's mod doesn't apply to me. ram air idea has turned to more of, "air intake that sucks in air outside of engine bay"
I have a setup right now but with no dyno I can't get numbers. I can say that I did get mpg increase. hitting half tank usually showed around 180-200kms with mostly city. im now getting 250-270kms at that half mark. tested this 3x.
