3rd gen popping when turning hard r/l

I had a strange side to side noise when my truck would rock...so......I took the suspsension out today checked everything and put it back in.

Cleared up the original noise.

Now, however, I have a really horrible popping noise when turning right or left. Even as i turn onto streets it makes the noise, not just when i'm in a tight turn.

It does it when i'm parked still as well. Seems to do it more with my foot on the brakes, then with my foot off the brakes.

I'm really at a loss, but would like to get it fixed as it sounds pretty awful.

I'm going to tighten my steering shaft rag joint tomorrow to make sure that everything is good and tight there, but have no other ideas.

Thanks,
Bill

Did you ever figure out what the problem was? Mine is not so much of a pop, but I believe the steering rack itself is fixing to go out. It seems like its just getting harder to turn, but then again it could be these heavy ass swampers....

Popping Noise

I had the same noise and it turned out when I changed my rotors that I did'nt tighten the retaining nut tight enough and it made a clicking noise even in the slightest turn. Tightend it up, noise was gone, meee very happy.

I didn't figure it out yet. It doesn't sound like a clicking at all though. it's definitely a popping noise.

I certainly hope that my steering rack would not be going out. That would really suck. If I can't figure it out, I might have to take it into the stealer as it's the kinda noise that sounds like something bad could come of it.

I thought of that too, but my angles are better than a lot of the people here, and I felt like it would make an even worse noise if something were up with my cvs. Plus, my boots look golden with no grease, tears, etc.

still looking,

Does the noise come from one side, both sides, or the front/middle?

This very well could be it. Did you take the big nut on the CV axle off? If you did, this could be it.

I second the sway bar link. I have had the same noise a couple of times, it's always been the swaybar link. If all the bolts are tight try putting a little grease on the bushings.

It's not the sway bar end link. It makes the noise when they're off too. I thought the same thing.

I'll have to check the swaybar bracket, but it's raining today, so that's not gonna happen.

I didn't take any part of my CV apart, but I guess I'll check that screw as well as the rotor screw.

Thanks for the suggestions. I at least have some things to try now.

Had the wife turn the wheel while I crawled under today. The sound is more pronounced when the brake is depressed. It's really awful and loud, and seems to be coming from right in the middle of the truck. I'll have to take my skid off to get a better gander, but you can really here it and feel it from the center. Still no idea though.

I've always had this rattle on the rear drivers wheel when hitting a hard bump though, and i think today i figured out it was part of the emergency brake that is looser on that side then the passenger side. Not sure how to fix that yet, but it's a small piece of hope in defeating these strange noises.

the saga continues...

took skid plate off

drove around block

no noise.

this is good and bad. Good, because it's nothing to worry about, bad because it annoys the crap out of me. maybe it won't do it when I get everything back up there.
