3rd Gen. Low erratic Idle?

Hey I have a 2002 SR5 4WD with the 3.4 in it, a couple months ago I was running in drive at idle around 7-800 RPM. now it has dropped to 550-600RPM, anyone know what can cause this? I checked my air filter and it seemed clean enough (its a K&N).

The likely culprit is a dirty throttle body (see cleaning the throttle body...) :

You might also check your MAF since many experience problems with those K&N filters. I most don't recommend them on this board since it does tend to foul the MAF over time (I'd sell it on eBay and get an Amsoil instead).

My 99 will do this, and not long after will light the CEL with P0171.

Clean the MAF. Be sure to get down inside where the actual hotwires are and not just the IAT amber bulby thingy.

Did you found the problem? I have the same issue on my 99 3.4. Sometimes idling at 550-600rpm. Thanks!

low idle is usually and air issue. Have you tried removing the air filter ( to eliminate potentially clogged filter element) or spraying carb cleaner along all the pipes (to check for leaks)?
