3rd Gen Front Differential Removal
I am trying to remove my front diff and have run into a problem. The manual says to remove the rear differential mounting nut. It appears that the nut is round and appears to have a hole for an allen wrench. Is this correct?
I know that the drain plugs use an allen wrench so it wouldn't surprise me. Anyone remove this nut before? Any idea what size it is. The biggest I have was 10mm and it's at least one or two sizes larger.
Thanks for the help!

It will be one of those sizes though.

After you have they allen nut off, you have to take 2 more bold out. They are above the crossmember. The only way to get those out, is by taking the allen nut off. There is not enough room to get the front 3rd out otherwise. I just replaced mine with one with a different gear ratio

12mm allen wrench, it was easy to get out but a PITA to put back in, smashed my finger in the process; https://www.yotatech.com/attachment....achmentid=4521

Steve: Have not installed the diff drop kit I ordered from you. My friend will ship it with some other items which I ordered from summit racing. Thanks.
Bruce: Sorry, but my Hilux Surf stays here with me.... The 3.0L TDIC engine is available in central america. I saw a pic (in T4R.org) of a 4th gen with the 1KZ-TE engine. You might be able to get from there. Although this versions are not as powerful as the JDM version (125 hp vs 140 hp). There's also some diff in the torque output.

Torque output is 340 N-m for the 1KZ-TE and 352 N-m for the newer 1KD-FTV. Please note that these values are from JDM engines. export versions have lesser output.
I'm getting an average of 10km/ltr. That's 50-50 highway-city driving. On the highway, I travel at around 90 kph at around 1800 rpm. At 110 kph, fuel consumption increases.
