I have the SS 1.2 kit on my 4Runner and after driving it for a while without a skid plant and I am now in the market for a new one.

SS recommends the Budbuilt skid plants. Has anyone used these before? Is there any other companies you guys would recommend?

I just installed a budbuilt front skid plate, felt really beefy and bolted right up.
It took them 2 months to get it to me though, which they said might happen because I had it made out of 1/4" aluminium.

I have a 3/4" diff drop and it cleared just fine.

Why did you go with Aluminium over the steel? Did it cost more? Yeah I think I have 1" diff drop with the SS 1.2 kit.

Aluminium is lighter than steel and is more corrosion resistant.
yes, cost more.

The options are:
1/8" steel $289
3/16" steel $289
3/16" stainless steel $140 more
1/4" aluminium $140 more

I just bought a skid row a few weeks ago from Quadratech at a really good price....maybe something like 230 shipped. Over a 100 lower than the skid row site.

Heavy, a bit. But this thing is VERY well built and has a nice paint job so rust should not be a problem unless you gouge it. If that is the case then paint it ASAP. I have not had the opportunity to see other manu's of skid plates to compare, but I'm so impressed with the quality I'm going to buy another for my 4Runner as well.
