3rd Gen 4Runner Roll Bar Mod (pics)
So I asked around for a roll bar from a few of the local guys on TTORA and ended up scoring one for 40 bucks. It's in great shape. So today I had a little time to measure and cut as well as test the fitment in the truck. The hardest part is getting it in the passenger doors cus you WILL NOT get it through the back hatch. I think it took me about 20 min to fold down the seats, take off the pannel around the rear seat belts and get the roll bar into position.
I'm am not however completely done. This was simply a test fitment and to see how it looks. I still have to get the end plates welded back on as well as machine another couple matching plates to mount under the wheel well. I will keep this thread updated when I complete everything and take lots of pics. Here's a teaser though to see what it will look like.

the little tabs that stick out on both ends don't allow it to go past the roll bar. I think with a little modding it might work. If it doesn't, I'll prob take it out. Does suck though, cus I used it to cover up my subs and stuff so nosy people cant see whats back there.

I've got a maglite attached to the metal bracket on my driver seat but I might mount a light back there. I'm for sure mounting a hi-lift back there and extinguisher. Full spare might go back there if I decide not to go with the CBI swing away. It's in the works

I love having a roll bar in my 3rd gen, yours looks right at home back there. I too have a maglite and fire extinguisher mounted to mine, and I'm always securing things to it so they don't slide all around. I remember a friend of mine had a Jeep Wrangler with one of those soundbars attached to his roll bar, I always wondered if one of those could be attached to the 1st gen roll bar for some added lighting and speakers in the back. I've never really looked into the dimensions for fitment, but if it fit that would be pretty cool to have some more speakers back there and you could run the wires through the bar down to the carpet for a sleek install too.
Looks great IMO, nice job JWaldz! Do you have the pad for the roll bar? I've got an extra in black if you're looking for one. Let me know.

awesome! I'm still awaiting some time to get mine all finshed. This month is so busy for me Work full time, school full time, duck season opens up the 20th here, Hogs play Tigers at home soon, and thanksgiving crawl @superlift park is the same weekend. So much to do, such little time as always.
