Not sure why you started a new thread for this....
If it was my engine I'd probably just find a used one with lower miles rather than pay for any rebuild that serious. I would at least pull the heads to verify what the tech claimed (I wouldn't want to be forced to get another engine without being absolutely sure of the severity of the damage). Once you had a new engine you could easily part out the damage one and recover a decent amount of the money (heads should bring a couple hundred).
