33" x skinny x 16"
I was wondering what the skinniest 33" tire out there is. I would like to get a real thin one so that it doesn't hang down when mounted in the stock spare tire location. I'm even willing to get a skinnier rim if necessary. Anybody done anything like this? Does a 33" even fit between the frame? If not I'd contimplate doing a box in the cargo area that folds out to a sleeper (like several people have done) and house the spare under it... again the skinnier the better.
33" x 5.5" x 16" would be sweet on a 5" rim. Hmmm.. maybe I can retrofit a dirt bike tire, haha just kidding.

X2 on 255/85/16/ trxus makes their MT in this size. just a hair shorter than a 285. brand new, im sure theyd be just about the same. interco are usually larger than their metric equivalent, where others are quite abit smaller like BFG and MT/R's...
for comparison: an unmounted 255/85 trxus beside a mounted 285/75 MT/R

I tried google and a few other search engines trying to find an even skinnier tire. The 255 is still about 10 inches. I was looking for 6 or so... I don't feel like I'm going to be able to find it.

Would I be able to run a 15" rim on the back? I think there would be clearance issues on the front but could a 15" work on the back? Just wonding if I can expand my tire search to include 15" rims.

if you get 15" tire, hopefully you will never have a flat in the front, they most likely won't work with the big wheel package.
You could also try some foreign sizes like 7.50r16 (31x7.5) or 8.25r16 (34x8.5) but good luck finding those tires readily available in the usa.
255/85/16 is the way to go.
Found some for sale:
7.50-16 - 32.5" around weight 32 width 7.5
some old army jeep tires

Crolison, where did you find those???
Xcmountain80, this would only be for a spare. I want to reduce/eliminate the amount of tire hanging down. Also in the future, I may do an auxilary tank in the spare location and move the spare into the back & build a box that converts to a sleeping platform; in which case, having a skinny tire would allow me to keep it low profile.

Yeah I forgot is was for a spare. So in theory it would be like a skinny spare found in a car but.... for a truck. Yeah I see what you say about the 15" and yes that makes perfect sense. Indeed you would need to figure out a way to swap front with rear in event of front tire failure.
