Question 32x11.5 R15 Tires on '95

I know the topics of tires, backspacing and the like have been beat to death on here. I have a very specific question. Is anyone running 32x11.5 R15 Tires on 3.75 or 4.5 of backspacing on a '95 4Runner. I don't have any body lift and was wondering if:
1) I would experience rubbing at full tilt?
2) I would need some body lift to pull it off without significant rubbing?
2) rubbing in the wells on hard turns or backing up?
3) you have experienced any significant loss of power.

According to 4wheelparts.com I should be able to upgrade to the 32x11.5s without having to change gears (I currently have 4.56 gears with a 5-speed manual and 31x10.5 on the stock allow rims.) I would like to get slightly bigger and wider tires without having to regear.

the size you want to bump up to is the same size I run right now. Have had them on for more than 4 years. I only added lift on my truck one year ago and then it was only 1&1/2". I have no idea what the backspacing is on my rims. (sorry) But I can tell you that they rubbed a small amount. Mostly when cranked full left in reverse. ....So I didn't crank the wheel all the way. (no problem) I imagine if you crank up your torsion bars to level with your 1" rear springs you might get lucky and not rub at all. On the power loss issue. Per your mod list i see nothing in the performance category. This will hurt you. You will most deffinately notice the decreased umpf from the bigger tire. Not much you can do about that without spending some more of your hard earned duckets. If you're like me though you will do so willingly out of love for your toy and lust for something that runs stronger and sounds hotter than stock.

Oh yeah man! I plan to do the intake silencer removal mod soon which will give me some extra HP. Basically regearing is pretty expensive and if I was going to I'd put a locker at least in the back at the same time. I contemplated new headers and exhaust system, am not sure how much of a diff. that would make... I know any upgrade ends up leading to more, I'm just trying to get a handle on what more it will lead to.

Dragr1, thanks for the offer!. while tempting, I'm pretty hooked on BFGs AT KO's. I'll think about it and send you a PM if I want them.

I ran that for a while with stock alloy. It does rub at full turn. with aftermarket wheels it shouldn't rub.
Here's a pic of it...it's the "before" pic.

anthony, so as far as aftermarket wheels do you mean switching to 3.25 in. of backspacing? I would think I would get the same amount of rub on aftermarket wheels that have the same backspacing as stock (4.5")?

I doubt that you'll get any actual HP boost from just the ISR that you'll be able to notice. An airbox mod will help just a little, headers and a high flow cat will help much more. You can wait on the re-gear if you do all that stuff.
As long as you're doin the headers and such you'll probably want to add a borla catback, or magnaflow set up. Those tend to be the most popular from what i've read here. You might want to hold off on doing headers and do the re-gear (4:88's) 1st. that way you'll have exactly as much pull as you have right now (w/ 4:56's and 31X10.5's.)
Then you could take your time and look for some used headers off ebay and so on at your convenience. The air box deckplate mod w/ amsoil filter and ISR are more your cheap do it yourselfer mods you could jump on right away too.

yeah, you would have to get wheels that will stick out more. The rubbing occure where the tire edge rubs against the swaybar.

Modzilla, right on. I think I could swap the gears myself which brings it into a more reasonable price range, plus I dig the work... Thanks for the advice. Know any good places to get new gears?

Anthony, that's cool, I don't mind widening the stance a little. maybe I can find some of the limited fender flares to cover the extra tread and keep me legal.

Always a pleasure to share some of the info gained from here and my own experience. Good luck and follow up with pix. Sorry I can't offer advice on where to get the gears. The flares I run for my tires are the Bushwacker extend-a-fender. they are a bit spendy from what i've seen lately but I love em.

I have exactly the combo you're asking about on my 94 runner, my wheels have 4.5" of backspacing(rockcrawlers) and I'm running 32x11.5 BFGs. I dont have any lift in the front(yet) but do have the Performance springs in the back. I do get a little rubbing in the inside of my mudflaps in the front when the wheel is turned full over and the wheel is flexing upward, this may be due to the aftermarket mudflaps I put on after removing the running boards. I also have 4:56 gearing(3.0,5spd) and have noticed some loss of power going up hills in 4th and 5th gear on the freeway, so far it hasnt hampered my trucks offroading abilities. If and when I get lockers I will probably regear to 4:88 just for the extra torque. I hope this info helps, the 32s are a great size it you're not lifting the truck soon and dont want to regear.

I'm running that sized tire on my 91 with no body lift.

They rubbed on the front valance, which doesn't apply to you.

I haven't found much difference from 31's as far as gearing or power goes, so slap some 32's on there and stop beating around the bush, you'll be glad you did

Or you can put on 1-2" body lift, ball joint spacer, 3" rear lift and get 33's....

with 2" body lift.

with 1" body lift

I think what you said about the 1" body lift, 1.5" BJ spacers and cruiser coils to fit 33's is the route that I am going to go.

When these puppies wear out (or if I get tired of waiting), I'm going to do a 1" BL, BJ spacers, and throw on 33's and re-gear.

Shhhhh. Don't tell anybody
