I plan to to the 30k service myself. i called the dealer and asked "if i can use all 6 NGK spark plugs or 3 NGK and 3 DENSO". they said it's OK to use all 6 NGK. What have you guys used?
(02 4Runner, sport 4wd...)

I just changed my spark plugs this weekend (30k mile service) with 6 denso plugs. The truck runs great.

I use Bosch Platinum +4's. I only need to change then about every 100k, and I noticed a distinct improvement in performance when I first installed them. On the other hand, I hve 2 '87 22R engines, not one like yours, so...

NGK all the way around. Mine had the same six to begin with and not 3 of each. MPG increased as well after the change.

Always use the OEM plug on a stock 5VZFE. Be sure to gap it with a wire feeler-type gapper (Autozone has them) - this step is often overlooked.

The stock plugs are the NGK with double "tips". They come pre-gapped. If you try to gap them, you'll likely damage them.

Not true. They say pre-gapped, but they are often gapped incorrectly. By using a wire feeler-type guage, you will avoid damaging the electrodes.
