3" Revtek lift FUBARing my cv's.

Well I was really loving the minor lift I put on the truck last weekend, until I drove down a friggin street that I always take during the week. Driving about five miles over the 25 mile speed limit in town, hit some friggin bumps in the road, and all I kept hearing was a nasty sound down below. Gotta be CV's? Gonna call Schwab's in the morn. What in the *uc*?

A diff drop would definitely help with the cv angles if you don't already have one on there. Plus they are pretty cheap to get.

It's alot stiffer since the lift. Yes, I can feel it binding. It almost sounds like the exhaust could be banging around, but I really do think it's the cv joint. At Schwab's they told me not to wheel it for 1000 miles. They actually told to bring it back in after the 1000k so they could check it all out, "It's part of the package". I just got this done on Saturday with no wheelin yet and I'm hella mad. They have to know about the diff. needing to be droped with the lift. I will purchase a diff. drop if they don't hook it up. Anybody ever experience this?

They don't necessarily know you need a diff drop. If one didn't come with the kit or parts you ordered, they may have assumed you didn't need one, and not all kits come with them.

Man, I don't really know. What do you mean jfreisner? Schwab's sold me the kit, and they were the ones that said it comes with new rear shocks. If you look up the Revtek 96-02 kits, it says new shocks are not required. Either freakin way they better hook it up. I just paid $630 for this.

OK, the revtek kit comes with the diffdrop spacers as seen on revteks site and install instructions
http://www.revtek.com/docs/pn430.pdf
So it should be on there.
First thought is that one of the components is loose. Get them to double check the instal.

Wait, is it the boots that are screwed, or the actual joints?

I can't imagine your CV's binding...

i seriously doubt its your cv's. I have the front revtek plus a little extra and mine are fine. They probably left something loose or did something wrong. I hate les schwab. I have never seen them do anything right and always are wayyy overcharging for it. dont let them tell you everything is fine and normal. Make them go on a test drive with you so they can hear

All I could think about when I heard the noise was the cv's. From what I can see this morning the boots look fine. Could be something else. I will be talking with them to them today and will be taking them on the LITTLE BUMPY street where I noticed it. I'll post tonight. Thanks for the help.

They are ripping you if they told you it's part of the package. I noticed that you will have minor vibrations. Even a little HMMM, very seldomly that only lasts for about one second at a time. I have no diff drop, because it is not necessary. People can sit here and argue with me until they are blue in the face. MY Tacoma has been on extreme trails and i never suffered one failure period. Yes, the ride will be A LOT stiffer, but that's what happens when you do a lift like this. The spring spacers lifted the front of you're 4 Runner 3.5."

Im assuming les schwab did an alignment too right?

If there sounds like somethings loose, make sure they tightened the top nut on the strut assembly completely.

Did you actually look underneath yourself? You may see something that doesn't need to be handled by them again. Could be your sway bar endlinks.

Turns out my rack and pinion bushings are real loose.

Just got back from Schwab's. They checked it all out and everything was tight with the new Revtek lift. He did however noticed that my R/Pinion bushings are loose and that could have been the noise I was hearing last night. So I said lets drive down the road I drove last night, so he could hear it for himself, ok. SO I took him down to the spot and it didn't do it . So we turned around, tried it again, and just a little noise that time. He said he could feel it under the floor board, and says thats right where the R/Pinion is. The only reason that I think it didn't sound and feel like it did last night is because of the extra weight? Also since I got the lift it's been pulling a little, started out to the right, tonight it was pulling left when I brake. Kinda fluctuates. Yes they aligned it with the lift. He showed me all the play because of the worn out bushings. So they said they would fix it with better bushings $18.00, 1 hour labor $88.00, alignment for nothing. I wish I new more about all this stuff.
