3.fast Baja Champions
You will all be proud to know that my Long Beach Crew won the Baja 1000 a couple weeks ago, driving a late model Tacoma. You will be surprised that they accomplished this feat, and won the SCORE 2004 series in class 7s, with a 3.0L engine block. Check the link in my sig for pics etc. and tip one back for the 3.fast!

Is that the truck that has a sheet of aluminum over the bed-cage? If so I checked it out at SEMA this year, I was impressed by the vertical uni-ball "stock" suspension.

congrads!
Now is that the 3vze block and not the 5vze block that came with that year taco?
If so, how about helping out us not so powerful 3vze's do better than 13 seconds 0-60...

My guess would be that they already had a built motor from an older race truck.
There is no shortage of power potential in a 3.0 (or any motor for that matter) but you have to throw smog out the window and forsake a nice smooth DD like idle (read: cams) to get 300hp plus with out forced induction.
7s primarily mandates stock suspension mounting points, if anything they'd have to have kept the 3.4L to be closer to stock. But obviously that's not the case.

Still it's not the same engine, their where obvious upgrades to give it added power, if you applied them to the daily drives they would fail smog checks, the truck is uncivilized, it's not so much the engine and speed as it is the driver, most guys here would crash the 1st mile with your lack luster driving experience, something about flying through the air at 100+ trying to avoid man made obstacles while landing and not rolling over
4banger Kias have finished in the top rankings when 1000hp dune buggies crash, it's the driver

1. no smog checks here
2. a lumpy cam is awsome
3. i have a strong survival sense so I like to keep all 4 wheels on the ground no matter what power level
Im sorry but I for one will be doing a rebuild soon and WANT to do the 1/4 in LESS than 20 seconds.....
ps - EDGE, Im still in love with your avatar!

Does your truck really do over 20 seconds in the 1/4? I would believe 17-ish but 20!
My point was there is no secret for just the 3.0 motor, the same engine performance work will benefit all motors. Typically higher displacement motors will benefit more.

ive not put mine on the track but it is anemically slow....
I'd love to do some head and cam work to this engine and maybe beef up the mains post rebuild, but right now the only place for cams/heads is DOA racing, and I have reservations about those head/cams. I dont know, I guess I want something that has proven itself before I dump money into it....

On second thought, I dont really want to hijack this thread - this is about their awsome driving, their pit crew keeping them running, and great designing!
Maybe they will point out things that can help us to make a bit more than 150 bhp. - perhaps a head/cam sponsor that we could purchase products from?

I cant respond to the threadjack about beefing the 3.0 (I'm not very technically inclined ) - I just chase and pit for the team (read: gas splash and belt boy). I'll see if I can get one of my amigos to divulge a few details about the 3.fast though.
Better yet, meet us in Laughlin!

I believe that race Taco has a Camery V6 motor built for Ivan to do the old Micky Thomson shortcorse races and has carbs instead of EFI, but I could be wrong, the info I have came from the Taco owners when the race truck was first built and they may have changed it since.
