3.4L Performance cams.

Are there any aftermaket suppliers who make cams for the 5VZ-FE? If not, do any of you have regrinds in your rigs? If so, who made them for you?

There was a thread here on the forum from about a year ago (I know it was sometime in 2003) where people were looking into cams. At the time, I think that they had found EL prototypes to be about $150/each depending on the grind.

Hitting up the Summit Racing site, there're miscellaneous entries under "cam toyota" $100-$170 each, but it's unclear as to what engines those are for.

EL is here: http://www.elprototypes.com/homepage.htm

Maybe drop 'em a line and ask?

Check out Web Cam.

If you are going for the regrind route be very careful. Find out how they are going to compensate for the excessive lash that it will create and what they are doing to make up for it. The standard adjustment shims are not large enough to close the excessive lash.

The second thing to be very careful of is what process they use to reharden the metal after grinding. The hardness treatment is not all the way through the cam and it is only so deep. A regrind will usually cut through this and if they are not rehardened the will wearout very quickly.

We have used several differnet cam profiles on one of our test trucks and to be honest found that the stock cams gave the best overall performance without any bad manners and that is what we run in our built engines.

Gadget, when your talking about performance, i guess your talking about better low end torque. Here in the carolinas we have lots of muuuud to slog through, so not really concerned with low end power for doing that. Have any of the cam profiles you have used shown significant improvement or shift in mid to high rpm power?

$750 is a little steep for regrinded cams.
