3.4 CEL code?
Hey everybody. I'm fairly new to Yotatech, but i'm definitely liking what I see. My question deals with my CEL that keeps coming on and off at random intervals. So when I was at my friends house one day, we hooked it up to his scanner and it said the problem is coming from Throttle Posistion Sensor - Circuit A. Anybody know if this may affect performance/milage now or in the future and if I might be able to correct it myself, instead of just removing the ecm fuse to clear the light?

don't remember the exact code number, but i'm 100% sure it said "Throttle Position Sensor - Circuit A", and i don't remove the furse every time the CEL comes on, as that causes the ecu to "re-learn"; only said that b/c someone mentioned it on here on another thread. but will not finding the exact solution to the problem affect anything on my ride in the long run?

Here are the likely candidates:
P0120 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Malfunction
P0121 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Range/Performance Problem
P0122 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Low Input
P0123 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit High Input
P0124 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Intermittent
.....and each has it's own diagnosis procedure.
You need the actual number to really narrow it down any further.

I've had the same problem pop up (P0121) just last month with the CEL coming on about 3 times a week with it going off every time the truck sat for a few hours. Now 3 weeks later it hasn't returned but I'm suspecting the problem isn't really fixed but the colder weather might be hiding the problem and my mechanic will be getting my truck this week so hopefully narrow the problem down and get it fixed since I do think my MPGs have dropped 1-2 even tho' the CEL hasn't returned.

the code P0120 is for sure it, as i scanned i again, as the dang CEL came on again. so what are the testing/diagnostic procedures for this specific code? any help is greatly appreciated.

My DTC Lookup says " Fuel Air Metering" for code P0120.

Possible causes:
* Open or short in throttle position sensor circuit
* Throttle position sensor
* ECM

hey guys, thanks for that info, it had some great stuff in it. 
next question though, if i'm going to test it myself, how do i need to apply the vaccum while testing with the volt/ohm meter and how much of a vaccum is needed? once again, any and all help is greatly appreciated...

don't even worry about trying to test it...just go to autozone or somewhere similar and buy a new one for $50-$60 and it takes literally two minutes to replace...trust me, don't worry yourself with the testing

$50-60 for an OEM. i just replaced mine couple weeks ago. i got P0120 code, too. all you need is a stubby phillips screw driver. if you need the part# and price, PM me. i can find out for ya.

I have the same problem, but when I replaced my TPS sensor with a new one my truck instantly drove better. I drove it back to work about 20 minutes worth of driving and then parked it. When I cranked my truck up all of my problems came back except I had no CEL and when I tried to pull the a code there was no code (DTC).
I am now confused? I figured out how to reset the ECM by pulling the EFI fuse and then took my truck for a 10 minute drive. I understand that I need to give the ECM some time to relearn my driving habits.
Any thoughts?
