Does the 3.4 run much hotter with the addition of the s/c and fuel mods(urd kit)?

it shouldn't. Actaully it should run cooler.
The URD kit comes with a 170* t-stat

thanks for the input. I am aware of the upgraded t-stat, just curious about how much of an effect the heated intake air from the s/c has on the engine. Obviously reduces it's overall lifespan, but just wanted to hear about any detonations, etc. Merry x-mas!

Engine temp will stay the same, exhaust temp will go up - I run around 1250* at WOT, and it's said that the top-end of the range is about 1450. If you don't do the fuel mods and such, you can expect to have major issues.


Have you searched here at all, or the 'net? There is a LOT of information on how to properly run a S/C on our trucks.

Do it right, and you won't have an issue with detonation or reduced lifespan. This is a VERY strong engine to build on - it's not even sweating with the S/C on it.

oh I assume that everyone that runs the s/c is running the fuel mods...I was just curious as to whether or not the water/alcohol injection kits are a big benefit or not? thanks as always

They definately are. You are gaining another 20-30HP on what you already have and you intake temps will be much lower than normal, which will allow you to run a smaller pulley considering you have the proper fuel mods and an acceptable EGT.

Everyone _should_ be, not not everyone is. Some people are saying that they're not having any trouble and not running mods, other people have learned to "drive around" the ping and probably aren't even really aware of the leanout up top.

We try a LOT on this forum to educate folks on the mods and STRONGLY encourage them to run with them.


Marko said this, but the bottom line is yes - running methanol injection is worthwhile to get the max HP out of our engines.

The "bolt-on HP leader" here is a guy named Dave... He's pushing over 300HP _at the wheels_. All of his mods are pure bolt-ons... SC, headers, methanol injection, etc. I'm on the path to match him come this spring.

URD's kits started as a needed compliment for the TRD SC; if you look around the net about TRD, you will find that even though they swear up and down that the SC doesn't need any fuel mods, this is bull; it is because of a legal/copyright issue within the US and while yes you can run a straight SC with no other mods, it is kinda pointless. URD now makes a ton of other stuff including there own SC for the new 4.0's ringing in 400+ RWHP with appropriate fuel/exhaust mods.

The water/meth is GREAT for any engine but especially so with forced induction; makes it safer and does add significant power/fuel economy as well. If you are spending money on a SC and other associated mods, do yourself a favor and spend some extra chump change on a water/meth kit for the sake of your rig, you won't be dissapointed. The 3.4 is a bomb proof V6, I SC'd mine at over 130k with no rebuild or tune-up or anything and runs awesome but water/meth is an added safety blanket.

I am due for a re-tune, has been a few months and my timing/meth is not tuned very well at the moment, pushing 227 RWHP on my 3.4 Taco XC 4x4 though. When the SC is due for a rebuild, or when I blow up my engine, it's getting bored out and dropping some $$ on some performance camshafts and will crush some stock rav4's hahaha

OK, enough rambling... my point being:

GET ALCOHOL INJECTION!!!!
