3.4 Engine replacement
Hey all, Im new to the site. Hope im posting this in the right section. Im fairly new to the Toyotas so I have a few questions. I have a 97 limited 4wd and i was having some overheating issues with it and come to find out most of the coolant passages were clogged. Motor that came out of my 4runner had 354,000 mile on it so i decided to do a complete engine replacement. I found a 3.4 out of a 97 2wd model with 56,000. I am having trouble getting the motor to line up with the tranny. The motor mounts and crossover pipe seem to be getting in the way. angle the motor to high in the front and the crossover pipe hits the firewall and go to low with it the mounts touch the mount seats and the motor wont go back. can anyone who has done this before give me some advice on how to get this done. we have tryed every different angle and things still dont seem to line up. the alignment screws i had from an old job were the wrong thread.
-any suggestions on where to get the right alignment bolts, if even needed?
-and tips on going in with the motor(Taking anything off or jacking at certain points)
-anything im just plainly missing(swapping oil pans etc?)
Sorry for anything iv done wrong..Thanks for the help guys.

Are you trying to leave the transmission in place and stab the motor in? If so I think that you should remove the trans, set the motor in and then put the transmission back in.
I think that this would seriously make your job easier.

Thanks for replying. yes i was trying to leave the transmission in. the tranny with the weight of the transfercase is stupid heavy and im doing the job on the ground. That is what we may have to end up doing tho.. im hoping we can avoid that.
