3.0 Intake Mod
Hey, I have a question about the air intake for my 3.0....I'm new to yotatech and I hate to start a thread that has been addressed before, but I can't seem to find what I was looking for in any old threads.
My question is- for the 3.0, what is the best mod for the air intake? I've seen where the entire bottom has been removed, but I dont want to do that because of water.
Other threads seem to say that there is not ample room for a deckplate on the 3.0.
I don't really want to spend the money on the entire K&N FIPK or whatever, but if it is the BEST way, I guess I'll $ave up.
I would appreciate anyone's input and suggestions. I have found more useful information on this site in the past few weeks than anywhere else....Thanks for any help.

Yeah, I think the only mod for your airbox would be to drill the $%&* out of it; making it look like a woodpecker attacked it or something. Have you checked the tech section yet on this site? Should have some great info for you, check it out.

Go to the Tech section and look for Blu's 3.0 ISR mod.
This mod which removes a lot of the Intake Silencer stuff has also been done by UKMyer's and another member named Marc P.
This is a common mod on both the 3.0 and 3.4 engines.

If you are that concerned about water, then get a snorkle.
The water isn't really an issue if you drop the bottom out... if water is that high already, then the bottom of your airbox not being there isn't going to make any difference.

I've been happy with my K&N FIPK, but I plan on making something custom due to some of the stuff I need to fit under the hood.
If you want some detailed pics of the FIPK installed, let me know. You can probably booty-fab something that will work and will be dirt cheap...

Yeah that is the general idea for sure.

I did the ISR mod that Corey posted the link to about a month ago, today i drilled holes in my airbox, changed plugs, wires, cap and rotor---my 3.slow is still slow, but runs very good.

I'm going to do the ISR mod...I think I'll hold of on drilling holes...I'd rather just take the whole bottom off. I'm on gravel roads and in the swamp a good bit, so I'm thinking twice about exposing the filter any more.
Thanks

I left my airbox alone. I'll go for a snorkle early next spring. All of the above methods let more air in, but it's air from the engine bay and it's HOT. Com'on guys...we all know hot engine air is the worst kind.
