2wd mods

alright first of all i am new here and have a 01 2wd 4runner...it seems like the front end seems really low and is not level...i would like to get a more level look of the 4wd with not more than 2 inches of lift...i have searched and found many suggestions but i figured it would be easier to put it in one thread

Maybe you can browse through my webshots & check-out the suspension mod on my 99 2wd. No other mods besides a K&N drop-in filter.

thanks

The truck has Daystar 2.5" spacer lift all the way around. The '99 4wd rear springs were installed in place of the stock rear ones for added lift to the rear. The 4wd rear springs are taller than the 2wd ones. The front spring are still stock.

I'm running Bridgetone Dueler A/T, 285/75/16's right now. The tires clear about 3/4" - 1" from the upper control arms.

I hit some trails in the desert this past Sunday and I notice a slight rub on the corners of the upper control arms. No problems though.

i thought about the 2.5in daystar lift, how much of a lift would that end up on a 3rd gen 2wd, or would i have to get 4wd coils? sorry dumb noob questions, but i think i mite fork out the extra cash and go with the tundra/OME set up

The Tundra coils will lift a 2WD a good 3 to 3.5", remember that you start 1" lower than the same years 4WD model.

If all you want is the stance of the 1999 4WD 4Runner the tallest 3rd Gen, just pick up a set of those coils.

Personally I think the Tundra/891 will yield too much lift, hence requireing drive train modifications.

Re-use your stock shocks or upgrade. That would be your call.

Woa, sorry. I honestly don't remember getting a PM from you. Sorry.

As far as my truck goes, it is just PP 1" lift springs, and 4WD Bilstein shocks. (The 4WD & 2WD front Bilsteins are slightly different and the 4WD ones are needed to work with the PP springs. No price difference and the rears are the same for both.) Mine sits slightly higher in the front than in the rear. This is because the springs were designed for the 4WD 4Runners that are a little heavier in the front. So, if you go with this lift get some of the inexpensive OME trim-packers from Mike at Xtreme Off-Road and it will level out fine. I plan to get some one day but I am in no rush since the height difference is barely noticeable.

You can do a search and read my lift results from when I put the lift on a while back. I am also running 265/75/16 Revos. There is probably room for 285s. I have stock 4.10 gearing, so I could handle the 265s fine. You might want to figure out what gears you have before you decide on how big you want to go with tires.

The ride is great to me. Definitely firmer and tighter than stock. Nothing too harsh for me but others disagree and prefer softer shocks like the low-pressure OME ones.

If you don't plan to off-road any, and could afford it, ADDCO sway bars are a nice upgrade to the stock suspension also. I plan to upgrade mine one day when I get the funds. I think it would help out with cornering and also swaying on the interstate when it is real qindy outside.

Another lift option is to find a set of springs off a stock <2001 4WD 4Runner. Lots of folks on here sell them or would be willing to. Those would yield you around an inch or more of lift over your stock setup.

Once again I'm sorry for not respondind to your PM. If you have any other questions PM me again or e-mail me directly.

Really confused. New to the site and new to any type of truck. I have a '99 2WD and I need new shocks. I've already decided to get Bilsteins. Not sure though whether to get 2WD or 4WD Bilsteins but keep reading...

Now, I would like to get a little lift and since I'm putting in new shocks, I'd like to change the springs at the same time to save labor costs.

From what I'm reading, I can go with either PP springs (which PP doesn't recommend on a 2WD due to ride conditions), or stock 4WD springs for the 4runner, or go with Tacoma 4WD springs.

I don't mind having a stiffer ride but would like the most comfortable of the choices above. Since a lot of you know much more than I do, can you give an opinion on either of the three choices above?

raider, no adapters are needed its all bolt on

ebelen1, the tundra setup is shocks and springs, its one unit and bolts in place and will provide lift if you go the tundra springs route
