2wd drive into 4wd
has anyone made a 2wd 3rd gen into a 4wd 4runner?
mine is 2wd and was wondering how difficult this would be and how much money a small shop would ask?

It will be expensive, most likely more money than just selling the 2wd and buying a 4x4.

I dont think it would be too bad. But it all depends what exactly you want to do. You could do and SAS with the IFS eliminator kit from trail-gear for $1100. Then you would have to get a 4wd tranny and tcase, have driveline made, then lift the rear to match the front (about $700 for a leaf spring conversion lift from trail-gear). I dont know how much wiring would have to be done. I dont think that it would be much. Someone please feel free to add any other info to help. If you dont want to do an SAS then I think it would cost a lot more and be a lot more work.

Sas on a 3rd gen is More difficult than on a 1st or 2nd... You should be able to use parts from the tg Tacoma sas kit, but there is still alot of work to be done. Not to mention you have to run either a Dana or tg axle.
Sell it and buy 4x4. KISS

Go for the conversion if you're bored and have a lot of time and money to waste, otherwise sell your rig and by a sled that's already 4x4 from the factory that's done right and problem free and won't cost you much more than what you could sell your 2wd for. Good luck either way!
