What is the size of the stock roof rack without a sunroof?

I've given up on finding one on eBay, and cannot locate one at any local junkyards, so I may look for an aftermarket one.

They are the same... What are you looking for?? If you want to install a Thule rack system to stock tracks, there are many that will fit. I like the Ford Explorer ones, myself. They look much like the 3rd gen ones with the outer lip. The Ford Areostar ones will work as well. In fact, measure your roof and go to the bone yard with a tape measure in hand. You will find many will fit.

Too bad, I just auctioned my 2nd gen. roof rack on Ebay a month or two ago. Total width (side to side) between mounting holes was 36.5", can't remember front to back.

However, if you do not have the stock mounting holes, then (like Firefyter said) you can put any rack up there that will fit on the roof (since you will have to have the mounting holes installed anyeway). If you go this route, keep in mind that the roof is the strongest twoards the edges. Also, I haven't installed mounting holes myself, but I know the sunroof compartment is beneath the factory mounting holes, so tell whoever installs the mounting holes to be careful.

How much did you get for it if you don't mind me asking? I'm planning a full length basket and will be deep six'ing the factory rack.

Chebby, just go to the local bone yard and buy 2 tracks.. It should cost you less than e-bay shipping alone.. You will need to seal the old holes first, then drill new ones to accept the rubber well nuts and screw it down..

I listed it for $20 (no reserve) + $20 shipping. Final bid was something like $70. Not bad for a rack I had no use for.

PS, FWIW, I too wanted a basket style rack and ended up making the following (see pic below). The rack reused factory holes and cost under $60. Something to consider if you have the time.

I'm sellin', not buyin'. I'm doing a full length using factory holes and adding a few more.

Are "well nuts" the rubber plugs with a metal threaded insert in them? Where can I find these? Can these work with backing plates? I want to beef up the mounting so I don't tear any sheetmetal. Sorry for the hijack...

Chebby.. Yes the well nuts shouls be founs at most parts stores (hardware) and you basicly drill a hole, paint the edges, these drop in and cinch up when they tighten.. Yes, they are not the strongest way to mount the tracks, but it is they way most auto makers mount them.. Your other option is to pull the headliner which is a major pain.. Also if you even need to remove the track, you have to pull the head liner again...

From what I can tell from my wifes and my runner is that the racks, and all its parts, on 2nd and 3rd gen are identicle.
