2nd Gen chrome grill

First, I apologize in advance for no pics yet, they will be coming soon. After washing my Runner on Sunday, I noticed some chips in the black on the grill. Upon further inspection, I saw chrome! Im in the process of removing the black (plastic? I don't think its paint) and should give a warning if you try it. I found out the hard way that it's only a layer of chrome, and underneath that is more black. I think it's going to look sweet once I'm done, especially since I've never seen anyone else with this.

I scratched the heck out of my grill on my '01 trying to fit the gutter guard in when I was trying to cut it to size. Now I have scratch marks all over it that show as chrome. I was thinking the same thing about removing the rest of it to make it all chrome. I knew once I started there was no turning back so I figured I would wait for someone to test it and give some feedback on it. Sounds like you are going down that road for me/everyone. I for one am looking forward to the results. good luck.

Stay away from most paint and varnish removers...they contain organic solvents that may also soften the plastic. However, there was some 3M stuff I used a few years back that might do the trick. The "orange" based stuff might work as well.

I think you're onto something here Del.
