Question 2nd gen cheap mods

Hi,

I got '91 4Runner V6 2WD A/T with about 98K miles. And as you all know it's 3.SLOW!!!!!!!!!!!! I was wandering what mods are really helpful, not too expensive, and where I can get them from??

Thanks

I take it you are talking about performance mods?

Try the tech section as well as the feature. There's a lot of good information out there if you're willing to do a little legwork.

From what I understand though - you're only going to see small performance gains. Nothing that's going to allow you to forget that it's a 3.0
Sorry

From what I have found, no mods that will increase performance (3.slo into a 3.go) to anything you can really feel, will be cheap. A 10 hp increase really cant be felt. You need 25 or more to actually notice. Just about all the power comes in at 3k to 3.5k rpm, so off the line kick really cannot be found. My advice, if you want to do something, go with the cat back that most speak of. 2.25 muffler and tailpipe and let it go. If you want to try something more radical, you could try a 2.5' exhaust. Weld it to the exhaust manifold down pipe and continue back with a new free flow 2.5" cat, muffler and tailpipe. I was told by Tim at DOA that a full 2.5" exhaust is a must even on a stock system. Since I had a head port and polish, and camshaft regrind $$$, I did that. The 2.5" really woke my engine up compared to the 2.25" cat back and head P&P and cams. It did not hurt my low end, but It never had any low end to beginwith. I cannot say if the low end was helped any either. You do feel it all strong at 3k and above rpms, but it still was not what I wanted. Most say that anything larger than 2.25" will kill the low end torque. That did not happen in my case. It may have been due to the other mods, I dont know. I do know that I felt more kick, starting at about 2500 rpm with the full 2.5" exhaust as opposed to the 2.25" cat back. If you have around 300 to 400 to drop, try the 2.5". Otherwise, any other mods will prove to be very pricey with small gain. Just to point out, I have a 90 4 runner with auto tranny 4x4. I am geared for 28" tires but I run 30". My corrected 0 to 60 time is is 13.5 seconds. By corrected I mean that my speedo is off about 3mph, so I start my stopwatch when I nail the gas, and stop it when I hit about 58 miles per hour. Compare that to a 3.4L that is less than 10 seconds. Just as a comparison, what is your current 0 to 60 times? Post them if you will. I have decided that if I had it to do again, I would have left it stock and used the money elsewhere. But anyway, try to find out your 0 to 60 time. Im a bit curious. Hope this all helps.
