I got a quick question, I purchased my 4runner used and I have no idea what ECT does, when i turn it on and off it doesnt seem to do anything noticable.

ECT stands for electronically controlled transmission which means that when pressed, the shift points will change giving you more power from the get go. Use it for towing, going up large hills or lead footed starts from stop lights. Hope this answers your question. A dash light should come on when the button is pressed. You will notice the difference when you excelerate.

Before you get bombarded with people yelling at you to do so, i would recommend doing a search for this. (use the flashing green button at the top of the page), but to quickly answer your question....

The ECT (Electronically Controlled Transmission) Button changes the shifting points of your transmission. This helps you if you are towing, or trying to climb a steep, long hill. It allows the engine to rev higher before shifting.

The ECT button will make your Runner less slow, but nothing short of a swap will make it fast... (I'm in the same boat - ECT on always for a little extra...)
