2gen 4runner screeching grinding noise right turns only

well yesterday after the truck had been sitting for a few hours I took it out to the store and whenever I take a right hand turn I am getting a almost rubbing grinding noise. I have looked through the front end but havent given it a shake down yet. Since its 6 degrees out I will wait till later when the tires go on to look at it. Just wondering if anyone has any common cause for this? lemme know if more info is neeed. 4wd 94 3.0 5spd

I've got a 93 4Runner 3.0 5spdwith a similar problem. I've had a very similar noise for a few months, only when turning right and gradually getting worse and worse. Mine is coming from the left front wheel area. I was thinking it was either a CV joint or this bushing
http://www.alldata.com/service_provi.../20000706.html

Pulled of the axles yesterday and no more noise. I'll try replacing the bushing and then installing the old axles. If the noise is gone then good, otherwise new axles are next. Seems like a lot of work but I don't want to spend $300 for 2 axles I don't need.
Assuming of course my wife let's me work on the truck over the holidays

mine just started making a growling noise from the front left when turning left or occasionally over bumps when the temps are below -4 F.

I'm thinking it's the bushing in the steering knuckle and hoping it will wait till spring.
I'ts not the steering stops cause I'm not turning that much.

hmm bushing in the steering knuckle... sounds like a candidate to me. Well I will see if I can sweet talk my buddy into lettin me throw it up on the lift at his shop sometime this week so i can figure this out.

i say mine seems to go away after driving for a little while. I am wondering if something is siezing up then getting loose after a while.

Here's a link from this site on changing the bushings to bearings.

Well got the new spindle bearings installed and no more noise, which I was happy about as it saved me from spending $300 on new CV axle shafts. I made a few modifications to the procedure in the write-up. I already has the shafts removed so I didn't remove the steering knuckle. Also didn't remove the outer bushing, I found I could tap out the inner bushing from the outside with a brass bar. And to get the bearings in, I just started them in a bit with a plastic hammer, and then pressed them in with a long bolt and nut with a couple of washers, basically a home made press. The new inner bushings I stuck in the freezer for 2-3 hours and then tapped them in with the plastic hammer, went in very easily.

The only disadvantage I found with not removing the knuckles was all of this had to be done lying under the truck. If you haven't removed the axles already it's probably just as easy to remove the knuckles.

The new inner bushings were cheap, about $12 Canadian, but I found the bearings were overpriced at $62 each, from the 'Stealership'. May be cheaper at a bearing supply place. I did note the bearing number, but it's at home and I'm at work :pat: But I do remember they are 37 mm o.d., 30 mm i.d. and 19 mm long. I'll add the number tomorrow.

Great info. Glad you got it fixed.
If you could provide the bearing numbers it would be greatly appreciated.

Just got the number from my wife, forgot she wasn't working today. It's an NSK bearing, #DB503011. At least, one of them looked like a 'B', the other looked like a D'square blob'503011. The D and the numbers are definitely correct though, and the sizes in the last post.
