295 Nitto's are on! Thanks Ric!

My new 295 Nitto's are on! Wow what a great tire/improvement over what I had!

I was running 285 Bfg Muds which were beyond gone for the past year, but since my taco is not my DD, I decided to wait and research the whole tire choice dillema a little more..........I'm glad I did.

I have been watching all the 3rd gen guys go bigger and wider with their tires as of late(Steve, Jim, Filthy Rich, Bamachem) and wanted to do the same on my Taco.

I was tired if loud, noisy mud tires and wanted something more street friendly but could still hold its own off road. The Nitto was the best bang for the buck by far(Filth Rich's thread sold me on these tires). These tires are as smooth as glass on the street, a 300% improvement over All 3 sets of Bfg's I have.

I had a few requirements for myself before buying these tires though. I most importantly wanted to mount them on my 16" stock wheels So that they would stay under the fender and not stick out(I hate this). I have a set of 80 wheels I tried, but the tire just stuck out too far past the fender. I think if I had flares, it would have been perfect, but I dont.
The only way to run this wide of a tire on a stock wheel is to obviously cut down the upper control arms, a job I left to Ric, and am very glad I did! He did an AWESOME job on them and without it, these Tires wouldn't have been possible for me. I have no rubbing at all on the arm, except across the arm at the front and only at full extension.
Thanks RIC!

First impressions:

They are much smoother than any other truck tire I have ever had.

The on-road ride is phenominal.

Nitto is a division of TOYO, which I run on 2 of my cars and they are great,
So you know that the Nitto has to be great as well.

They Balanced very easily.

The only bad reviews I have ever read about them say the they wear fast on heavy trucks, but my truck is anti-heavy, and I NEVER haul anything with the Tacoma. So that info was in-consequential to me.

Pics will come soon as well as a few other cool mods that I have done over the past couple of years that I will add to this thread in the next few days.

Oh, and BTW, if anyone is in the Memphis area, and wants my old 285 Bfg Muds for spares your are welcome to them, just come and get them. They are useless off road, but could still be driven on the street. I hate to just toss them, cause the whole time I had 285's, i always wanted a spare and never had one. None of them ever had plugs or patches.

hey tacocrawl, you say you tried 80 rims. Are they the fj80 oem rims? And if so, are you looking to sell them?

They are the FZJ-80 wheels, 16x8 4.5BS. The same wheels that Filthy and Bamachem are running. They came off my 1994 80 LC When I went to 17" MRW Beads for my Iroks. I think they use the shanks style lugs that I no longer have.

I would sell them, but have no idea what they are worth. I have all 5 w/ center caps. Ond has a bend that could easily be straightened of balanced out and use as a spare.
The finish on them is also kinda rough, would be perfect for Black paint(what i was gonna do) or powdercoat(funds permitting). Let me Know.

I also have 4 315 Bfg muds that have 40-50% tread that I need to let go, if anyone is interested in bumping themselves up to 315's for a good price.

I also would be interested in the 80 wheels and possibly the 315 BFG MT's. PM a few pictures and lets see if we can work something out.

If anyone can direct me how to do this, I would be most appreciative!

Heres a couple of shots of the interior.

My Alpine Head unit and Cobra CB..........Pretty standard.

I have, if anyone else is interested, upgraded my steering wheel and shift knobs to black leather ones from a early 3rd generation 4runer.
Not only do they look and feel better than the stock junk, but the show waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy less dirt and grime than the stock foam steering wheel and rubber shift knobs.

Are those Rancho 5000s on the front? If so, how do you like them? How do they ride?

They are Rancho 5k's on the front, and they suck ass. I have had 2 sets of them. One with the revtek kit I used to have, and the set I have now with the OME's. One of the one's I have now is blown, and the other is starting to leak. They might be fine with a stock suspension, but not with any kind of lift IMHO.

I bought a set of brand new N91s OME's through the classified section on here a few months back, but the were sent to me without the lower spring plates or any hardware, so they are now paper weights in my garage.
I tried several sources to get some hardware and spring plates(including ARB themselves) and was consistantly told that I have got to buy another pair of shocks. SUCKS!!!!!

If anyone on here has a set of OME fronts that they have taken off and don't need the hardware, I would GLADLY pay you for it so that I can use the shocks that go with the springs that I am running.

THANKS!!!!!
Matt

They ride great! But I guess anything is better than a set of bald, dry-rotted mud terrains! LOL!

I would highly reccommend these tires to anyone here who needs a set of streetable, semi-aggressive tires to ride on. Mud tires are just to expensive for me to waste on the street.

I've got 15k on mine and I quite happy with them epsecially in the rain and their turn-in grip is pretty decent in snow and have offered good recovery when the rear gets out of line.

They also cost me $200 less than the BFG A/Ts.
