Just curious if anyone might know if anything bad can happen from switching from 265/75 R16 down to 245/75 R16? I can get 4 brand new Dunlop GrandTreks in the 245 size for my 01 4Runner for $100 from a friend versus buy 4 new 265 for $600 or more ... How much is the size difference? Will it improve gas mileage by any chance?

The 265's are about 31.6" and the 245's are about 30.5". Your stock tire size will determine how far your speedometer will be off. Also, if your stock size is smaller than 245's your mileage will go up but if its larger your mileage will go down.

245/75's are 30.4" tall
265/75's are 31.6" tall

Take your pick, the 245's will probably yield slightly better mileage, but probably hardly noticeable. When I went from 31's to 32's I didn't see a change of more than like .3 mpg on average if anything.

i ran 225's for a while. I too didnt have the money for new tires, and these where free. There isnt anything bad that will happen if you run these tires, except for the slight loss of ground clearance, and the way they look.
